Mixed reactions have been trailing the proposal to remove the fuel subsidy. While some want the Federal Government to stop the policy, others say the masses would suffer if subsidy is removed.

The thing with fuel subsidy is, will the money be properly reinvested into the country, and not wasted or embezzled by a few persons? Yes, it should be removed. I will advise Buhari and PPPRA that when they remove the subsidy, they should ensure all the marketers sell at a uniform price. Not one is selling at N90, another would be selling at N120.

I don’t want subsidy removed because that’s the only hope of the poor. The moment the subsidy is removed, prices of fuel per litre will definitely go up. And that will cause another crisis that may even be worse. But on the other way round, if removing it will make all the products available all round the year and the prices will be affordable, let the subsidy be removed.
In that case, the President himself will take charge of the account. And now, that Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has been split, I think there will be less corruption in the system.

My opinion is that if subsidy is an impediment to the growth of our oil sector, let it be removed. But that decision takes a lot of consideration because of the state of poverty in the land. My fear is that if it is removed, the prices of fuel and other products of will skyrocket and that will eventually make it difficult for the poor masses to buy them.
The decision to remove oil subsidy can only yield a long term dividend, not short one. So, care must be taken so that Buhari won’t bite his fingers at last.

I don’t think there is anything wrong in that decision so far it will be handled with all sense of seriousness. Left to me, all I believe is that whether or not subsidy is removed, it doesn’t guarantee sanity within the system. What I will rather suggest is that the President himself should handle petroleum sector on account of his pedigree and integrity.
However, whether or not subsidy should be removed, he needs to be very careful before putting his pen on paper.
