One of the most topical issues at the moment is the recent arrest of judges carried out by men of Department of State Service (DSS) in Rivers state, and that has been generating mixed reactions among Nigerians.Some have lampooned the action of the security agents, describing it as barbaric, unconstitutional and an absolute disregard to the Lordships of the Judiciary, while some lauded the step, calling for the arrest of more judges that may be found wanting as that will serve as deterrent to others whose hands are also soiled with corrupt practices with a view to sanitising the system.
Some Nigerians encomium.ng sought their views on the issue also reacted differently:

I am not opposed to arresting judges or any public office holder without immunity but the approach must be decent. We’re not in military regime. The way the judges were treated was barbaric. I am not saying they’re above the law, but there must be decorum in the conduct of the DSS officials while dealing with people of such calibre, not maltreating or intimidating them.They should have invited them for interrogation.”

Left to me, the arrest and detention of the corrupt judges was a right step in a right direction. Though, they have been released, the shame they had gone through is enough as a lesson to other corrupt judges out there.
Whether you’re a judge or cleaner, no one is above the law. There shouldn’t be any discrimination in dealing with any issue under the law.
