Nigerians happy with Dangote over N1,000 cement

The news of the reduction of cement price by Dangote Group has elicited wide jubilation from Nigerians. Commending Africa’s riches man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote for the N1,000 per bag of cement price regime, they only hoped the quality of the products wouldn’t be comprised.

‘I am happy but have my doubts about the availability and quality’

– RUFUS OYEKUNLE

I am happy but have my doubts about the availability and quality of such products. It could be a gimmick. He can only sustain such if other variables involved come down too.
‘It is a good thing to have happened…’

– FOLAKE FATOYE

It is a good thing to have happened if it is realistic because a lot of factors will militate against such a thing. However, if its a feasible venture, it calls for public commendation. My fear is his ability to sustain it.

‘It will really help a lot of people to become landlords

– VICTOR CHUKA

If it will be truly implemented, it will really help a lot of people to become landlords, especially in Lagos. I am sure a lot of Nigerians are happy, and they will surely be praying for Dangote at the moment. But we should also pray that the price is sustained.

‘…if Dangote’s goodwill is not sabotaged by competitor’

– BILIKIS SALAUDEEN

I was happy when I read about the new price of cement announced by Dangote. It is a very considerate price, and I hope all cement marketers will follow suit. Also, I don’t doubt the sustainability of the new price, if Dangote’s goodwill is not sabotaged by competitors.

‘I don’t trust Dangote’

– ISMAILA DANJUMA, cement distributor

Yes, it’s a welcome development but I don’t trust Dangote. This might be a way of consolidating his monopoly which would later tell on consumers. I suspect the price of cement would be reviewed afterwards. It can’t be sustained.

‘It’s good omen for Nigerians’

– NGOZI IBEKWE

Dangote is a man of the people. I salute his good spirit. With this new price, the masses would build houses. Rent will also decrease. It can be sustained.

‘There should be a sustainability as the consumers should be the winner in this new price regime’

– SAMUEL ABULUDE

There should be a sustainability as the consumers should be the winner in this new price regime.  A level playing field should be used for all producers. Dangote alone should not be given the enabling environment.
‘If it is true, it is commendable’

– TONY NWANNE

If it is true, it is commendable, but I am sure circumstances might probably make it skyrocket again. At the same time, I begin to wonder what will happen to those that have already bought theirs at the high price?

Only time will tell.

‘It’s just an announcement’

– OLAWALE POPOOLA

It’s just an announcement! For now, maybe it’s just on paper. I bought cement for N1,750 three days ago. Government has given Dangote too much waiver/concession while the prices remain the same for the average man.

Government monopoly of license to Dangote alone to either import or produce cement will not make it sustainable, they should allow other companies to either import or produce. Give equal concessions and waivers. The market will be saturated, there will be more supply than the demand. Price will drop.
‘I see this as a political move to temporarily crash the price’

– DAYO AKINBOBOLA

I see this as a political move to temporarily crash the price. Where does he produce his own? What is the cost of production? Has he just opened new plants? These are issues to contend with if the price would be feasible in a long time to come.

‘It is an act of politicking’

– SEUN ADEPOJU

It is an act of politicking. Dangote is a business man who happens to be Goodluck’s man. After elections, the price will rise again if not more than its original price. It is a way for Goodluck getting a mandate.
‘I pray they sustain it’

– EMMANUEL OPEYEMI

It is too good to believe, may be when I see some one that has bought it for that price, I will believe. I pray they sustain it.
