Nigerians know how to cut cost even on that minute item one would never think about. As recession bites harder, Nigerians are going for less expensive toothpastes to save cost.
ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke with some people, here are their views….
MRS. ABASS
I go for cheaper toothpaste because one has to reduce cost by all means. It might just be N20 difference but that would add up anyhow. There is no way one wouldn’t reduce cost in this kind of economy Nigeria is in today.
LANRE AFOLABI
Yes, I have stopped buying N200 toothpaste. I go for those that are cheaper, at least N100 less. I found out that the manufacturers are just deceiving us. Everything is the same. They all clean my teeth well.
MRS. FUNMI ABIODUN
I didn’t change my brand of toothpaste, I just stopped buying for the children. You know kids have their own paste too. I just buy the adult paste and use it for them. Their paste is even more expensive so, it is really saving me cost.

Why will I go for cheaper toothpaste? How much difference is in the price of the so called expensive and cheap ones. It is better to use good quality so that I wouldn’t have to spend the money I was trying to save on sickness.

No, I don’t buy cheap paste. Toothpaste is not expensive. I don’t think I should be looking for cheaper ones. I don’t use foreign brands, so, I don’t have to worry about it. Toothpaste is just N200 and it lasts for one month for a whole family.

I have changed our toothpaste. We were using foreign brand before but when it got to N500, I had to introduce another brand to the house. We started using the foreign brand because of health reasons but it is increasingly becoming difficult to keep up with it.
ABIKE ADEYEMI
Yes, I changed my toothpaste when it was increased to N200 from N150. But, I have returned to the first paste I was using. The one I bought because it was cheap is not good quality. My teeth are becoming brown gradually, so I have stopped using it. The only thing is to keep on praying for provision.

I didn’t change the brand, I just started buying a smaller one. But at the end of the day, one would realize that buying the big one is better than the small one. The small one finishes on time. Even if you buy two, it wouldn’t last like the big one.

I have to look for ways of cutting cost. So, yes, I have changed my toothpaste to a less expensive one. I don’t really like the one I am using but, I have no choice. That is the reality on ground in Nigeria today.

I have changed the adult toothpaste to a less expensive one. I still buy a good quality for the children anyway. We just have to keep managing till things get better.

I have sampled almost all toothpastes in the market, name the brand. Once a toothpaste increases in price, I start searching for an alternative just to cut cost.

Yes, it is true. I have changed my paste more than twice. I try to reduce cost.

I have changed my toothpaste a lot of time. Not because I want a cheaper one, but because I am looking for the best quality. I don’t think it is wise to sacrifice quality for quantity.
