Nigerians react as President Buhari spends 60 days abroad for treatment

Nigerians have reacted to the continual absence of President Muhammadu Buhari from office for 60 days. They aired their views in an opinion poll conducted by encomium.ng on Friday, July 7, 2017.

Speaking about this development, some expressed their disappointment on the silence of the Presidency over the president’s state of health.

According to Damilola Gideon, the Presidency owes Nigerians an apology for keeping us in the dark over the president’s state of health. “They are beginning to make me believe all I read on the social media about the president’s state of health. At least, they should inform Nigerians if the president needs more time to recover, rather than putting us in the dark. People will still say whatever they want to say even if they told us the truth. Is it not better to come out with the truth than all the trending stories on social media about his state of health?”

Ngozi Chike begged to differ. She opined: “Nigerians should be calm with him, they shouldn’t take law into their hands. Sickness is not a desirable thing, let us pray that he gets well soon, rather than say all sorts of things. They should allow him make decisions on if he wants to continue or not.”

Esther Joshua also added: ” I think the president is not in a good condition at all. For the Presidency to be mum on his state of health shows things are not so good over there. I just pray he recovers, he wasn’t that sick when we elected him, I am sure the challenge of manning the affairs of the country aggravated his condition. Left for me, he should be given more time to recover.”

It would be recalled that the president left the shores of Nigeria on Sunday, May 7, 2017, to London for follow up medical consultation with his doctors. 60 days after his departure, no word has been heard about his real state of health.
