Nigerians welcome BVN deadline extension (2)

When the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) issued a deadline of June 30, 2015, for Nigerians to register for Bank Verification Number (BVN) with their respective banks as any customer without it will not be able to make transaction in and outside Nigeria, many people stormed the banks to beat the deadline, but not everybody could scale through which informed the extension of the deadline to October 31, 2015.

Some Nigerians ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke told us the challenges of getting the number and also applauded the deadline extension.

‘The extension was necessary’ – SAMFIELD BASSEY

I didn’t go through any out of the ordinary challenge during my BVN registration. It was smooth, just like those of most people I know. I particularly like the easy method of registration this time. Before now, registrations for anything in the bank was always hectic and tedious but this time everything was simplified, so it’s a good thing.

The extension was necessary. There was nothing CBN could do, people can’t lose access to their accounts because they could not do BVN registration. That’d be unfair. So, it’s a sensible move. I just hope that come October, people won’t be seeking further extension.

‘I don’t support giving Nigerians any deadline’ – ALICE SHOTONWA

I have done mine but I faced a lot of stress because I did it on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, when it’s supposed to close officially as announce by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). But since the deadline has been extended, people have relaxed again.

However, I don’t support giving Nigerians any deadline on that because so far people open account on a daily basis, it should be a continuous exercise. And I don’t subscribe to any account holder without BVN being punished.

‘I appreciated the idea’ – PASCAL UCHE

First, I would like to say that the idea of BVN is a good one. At first, I didn’t understand the idea behind it, but when I took time to read and really understood what it was all about, I appreciated the idea.

‘Why do we have to wait till the last-minute’ – RILWAN ABIODUN

I got it done on Monday, June 29, 2015 and it’s stressful. The queue was too long but I had to wait till it got to my turn. The only mistake Nigerians constantly make is waiting till the last-minute to do anything important which is not good at all.

Personally, I had the opportunity of getting my BVN far earlier than now but because of my non-challant altitude, I waited till the deadline was announced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which I think the same thing happened to most Nigerians who stormed the banks on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.

But with the extension of the deadline, I believe many people will have the opportunity to register for their BVN. It’s a good decision by the CBN. It’s highly welcomed.

‘BVN did not have any challenge’ – OLAOLUWA ARANMOLATE

Before the deadline, BVN did not have any challenge, the only challenge was that the banks did not probably enlighten people about the importance of BVN that is why people had a carefree attitude towards the registration and did not care until the last day.

Banks were actually congested on June 30, the deadline for the registration. A lot of people had not done the registration so, the extension was a very wise thing to do.

‘BVN should be a continuous exercise’ – AUSTINO MILADO

I’ve done my BVN registration. I’m however yet to update my other accounts. The October deadline is okay but I think it should be a continuous exercise.

‘The extension was needed’ – AKANNI LAWAL

To me, there was no challenge, Nigerians just like to show carefree attitude towards things of importance. They just wait until the deadline and they just waltz in.

The extension was needed because so many people haven’t registered for BVN so, the extension should help them do so.

‘The extension is a welcome development’ – BOLAJI AJIBOLA

I have done it. I wasn’t aware we were to present it at all our banks until I went for a transaction last week. The extension is a welcome development. If not for it, I would have missed the process.

‘My account officer informed me about it’ – ENIOLA ADEMOKOYA

My account officer was the one that informed me about it. I didn’t really understand what it was all about before. I have done it now. That is very important because of people who don’t really know what the whole process is all about.

Extension is commendable’ – ADAORA UKOH

Yes, I’ve done my BVN. It’s a good policy aimed at protecting us from fraudulent people. The extension of the exercise is commendable.
