Nine Ebola survivors recorded

While seven people have so far died from the Ebola virus, nine cases of survivors have also been recorded. According to the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, “A total number of cases successfully managed and discharged is now eight. The last case to be discharged, the first secondary contact to be diagnosed and a spouse of a primary contact of the index case, have gone home from the isolation ward in Lagos. The ninth survivor is the ECOWAS Commission official who jumped surveillance in Lagos and travelled to Port Harcourt where he infected the doctor who attended to him.”
“Total number of deaths from Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria is now seven. One is the first case, which occurred in a private hospital in Lagos, another four also in Lagos, two recorded in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
The minister added that two persons infected with the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) are currently under treatment – one in the commercial city of Lagos and the other in the oil city of Port Harcourt, while 41 contacts are currently under surveillance in Lagos and 296 in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
Chukwu said a total of 320 contacts have been discharged in Lagos after they were observed for 21 days, and that the disease had not spread outside the two cities of Lagos and Port Harcourt. Overall, 18 EVD cases have been recorded in Nigeria.
