+ Highlights of the Friday, November 15 event
It is often said that consistency brings about the best in any practice. This saying holds sway for the Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA) and its organizing team for their dexterity and dogged commitment towards establishing the annual awards ceremony as one of the most anticipated and consistent events on the Nigerian entertainment calendar over the years. The event which berthed on 2nd December 2007 as Nigeria’s first ever music video awards is set to put up another spectacular show once again on Friday 15th November 2013 at the shell hall of MUSON center in Lagos. The organizers have assured music enthusiasts nationwide that this year’s event which commemorates its 7th consecutive edition will be characterized by several activities and full of intrigues from the special green carpet/cocktail reception arena to the media and photography sections, the music performances and general awards presentations; all will be bumper packed with thrilling excitement.
Since inception the NMVA has helped in no small measure to encourage, increase and sustain the standards of music videos production in Nigeria. The result today is evidenced in the high quality of very well conceptualized, directed and produced videos; churned out daily by Nigerian artistes. The once near comatose sector has again regained its viability thereby providing employment for thousands of youth who could have otherwise been restive and invariably adding to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product/earnings (GDP). The event has also provided a platform for the recognition and eventual patronage of behind the scene technical hands like; editors, cinematographers, directors etc. It is hoped that the music videos machinery will serve to further convey the Nigerian message and theme to foreign lands even beyond the reach of government’s diplomatic ambassadors. The effectiveness of this medium lies in its entertainment qualities and attractiveness to the youth in general. These and more have inspired the organizers to continue to propagate our core moral and cultural values, in accordance with this the super 7th edition as it is aptly styled is themed; Our culture, Our Pride!
Some of Nigeria’s sizzling musicians will be putting up exceptional performances to spice up the awards ceremony. Top on this list are; Flavour Na’bania, Waje, Sound Sultan, Ice Prince, Chidima, Harrysong, Kcee, MayD and Sean Tizzle to mention a few. 2 new categories will also be featured this year namely; best music video by a minor (strictly for kids with great videos but can’t compete in the adult categories) and best pop extra video (introduced to accommodate more artistes in the pop genre). The organizers are also featuring for the very first time a life time achievement awards for one of Nigeria’s living music legends whose personality will only be revealed at the event. Showbiz mogul and entrepreneur Dayo Adeneye popularly referred to as D1 reputed for his high end style and panache has been tipped to anchor the event alongside the multi talented and amiable Mrs. Iretiola Doyle. There will also be three sub anchors to compere other aspects of the event namely; veteran broadcaster; Cordelia Okpei, former child star; Benita Okojie and the seasoned broadcaster; Richmond Osiji. Organizers of the Nigeria Music Video Awards plan to keep the event short and simple by adhering strictly to the take off time, so all guests are advised to be punctual. The Green carpet starts at 6pm while the awards ceremony will commence by 8pm.
