Nollywood, musicians on parade as EMPRESS NJAMAH marks birthday with less privileged

‘I thank God for everything’

The nation’s capital, Abuja, stood still last Sunday, when controversial screen diva, Empress Njamah, marked her birthday in grand style at The Druz Garden, Maitama, Abuja, with over a 1000 less privileged children.
In her welcome address, the CEO, House of Empress (HOE), said that what inspired the move was her desire to reach out to the less privileged, a feeling she has nursed from childhood.
“It all comes from the love I have for kids; this is something I like to do and my mum is not surprised that I am doing it today. I have always had a passion for kids. It’s like we are a big family; my mum is the mother of us all and I am their aunty and big sister,” says Empress, who revealed that It started when she was a baby after she told her mum she wanted to spend my birthday with kids and the family ended up having a lavish Christmas party.
What does she have to say to fellow celebrities about giving? “You have not given until you give to someone who can’t repay you; a lot of us don’t understand what charity is all about but with so very little we can put smiles on the faces of these kids; we need to make these kids know that we need and love them.”
To her fans she has a message: “I want to thank you all for being there for me and encouraging me for all that we do at HOE. Pray for me to continue; we can’t neglect these children.”
Among others, the event witnessed dance competition, fashion and catwalk competition, a novelty match between the kids and celebrities and the presentation of gifts and food items to the children and their respective orphanages.
The climax of the evening was when This Year singer, Jaywon, stormed the event and thrilled the kids. Also present at the celebration were celebrities including actors and musicians like Fred Amata, Charles Inogie, Oghenekaro, Benson Okonkwo and Cynthia among a host of others including Empress’ mum, Mrs. Njama. The kids were drawn from Hope For Survival Orphanage and Treasure Orphanage to mention a few.
The elated celebrant spoke with ENCOMIUM Weekly…

How does it feel being a year older?
It feels great. It’s like a further step to a greater level of understanding and knowledge of life. Above all, I thank God for everything.
What are some of the things that had changed about you?
My manner of approach to life in a positive way, less anxiety and more maturity.
What has been the greatest life challenge you have encountered so far?
Being Empress Njamah at all times, that is, being myself no matter what happens, anywhere or everywhere I find myself.
How old is Empress Njamah Foundation and what has kept it going?
The foundation is 9 years old and I must say it’s the God factor that has kept it going, not me.
How did you come about it?
I came about the foundation due to the overwhelming occurrence of child negligence. I was moved to do something, at least start somewhere by giving them that tiny ray of hope and I still intend to do more with the help of the Almighty.
What has been the challenge of running the foundation?
I must say here that it’s being really turbulent, but God Is faithful and will always be. At the same time, I do not see challenges, I only see opportunities to make things better.
How are you able to get funds in order to take care of these children?
It’s been easy though, like I mentioned earlier on, but the God factor always miraculously weathered the storm. Its part of how I pay my tithe. I have never gotten funds from a soul, government or friends, it has been my sweat all the way and House of Empress has been supportive too.
How do you always feel anytime you celebrate your birthday with the less privileged children?
I feel fulfilled as a person, because growing as a child in church, I was taught to always help those in need and by doing that, your giving brings a ray of hope that he/she thought has been dashed, thereby bringing God’s blessings upon you. I celebrate them all the time not just on my birthday, the foundation celebrates with the kids every month. It brings joy to me whenever I am with them, I feel loads of joy and happiness which words can’t explain.
