Nollywood stars: How they make their millions and what they spend it on (2): Halima Abubakar

STARS of Nigerian movie industry, in spite of the nefarious activities of pirates who enjoy reaping where they didn’t sow, are still living large.  They constantly rake in millions, smiling to the banks daily.  Some of them also have lots of investments, sponsorships and endorsements with notable brands, home and abroad.

ENCOMIUM Weekly brings you the second part of some of the A-list stars, what they earn and their assets:

HALIMA ABUBAKAR

Brilliant role interpreter, Halima Abubakar started her acting career at 13.  As a child actress, she was always the toast of most movie producers.  Since she started out, she has not looked back.  She has paid her dues over the years.  And her doggedness has earned her honours, local and international.  A couple of years back, Halima was named United Nations Ambassador for Peace.  A year after, she was also ranked among the celebrities that were made Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) ambassadors.  She is also the face of Tulti water, an endorsement that fetched her millions of naira, among others.

Halima, a multiple award winning thespian and producer, is one of the highest paid Nollywood stars right now with artiste fee of not less than N350,000.  She has featured in countless number of movies, including Ship of Fate, Tears of Child, Secret Shadows, Gangster Paradise, Area Mama, Men in Love and many more.

In 2013, she produced her movie, Mistresses and it sold out.  The movie reportedly grossed N20m.  She also has other movies including The Journey, The Bully, How I was raised to her credit as a movie producer.

Halima Abubakar is a proud owner of many business outfits, including her hairline, Habbi Hair, a music label and production company, Modehouz, which produced all her movies, and has Pere crooner, Young Issy as a signed artiste on same label.

The multiple award winning thespian cum producer is also said to have strong passion for farming and has invested a lot in that, especially in her hometown in Kogi where she owns vast acres of land for the production of grains and livestock.  This, we gathered, has fetched her a lot of money.  She also owns a bakery in Kano being run by one of her relatives.

The versatile film maker who clocked 30 on June 12, 2015, is one of the very private Nollywood stars regardless of the robust media attention she regularly enjoys.  Dubbed Nicki Minaj of Nigeria on account of her incredible derriere, she is no doubt one of the most talked about in the industry and beyond.

A philanthropist of note, whose love for charity is second to none in the industry with her Halima Abubakar Foundation for the less privileged.  She has toured over 15 states of Nigeria, helping kids with education materials, food, water and other items for free.

The Kogi born film maker owns a tastefully furnished bungalow in Maryland, Lagos, which she reportedly acquired in 2012 for N32 m.

Just like her colleagues, she also has passion for beautiful cars.  Halima has four exotic automobiles, including Toyota FJ Cruiser, Honda Accord, Toyota RAV 4 SUV and the latest being Chrysler convertible acquired in 2014, all worth millions of naira.
