Oando celebrates Valentine with orphans

On Saturday, February 13, 2016, the Oando Marketing Plc celebrated Valentine in a new way. They visited the orphanage at Lagos State Government Children Transit Centre, Idi-Araba, Lagos. The visiting team of Oando Marketing Plc rejoiced with the orphans and presented them O-Gas and other items.

ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke with the Chief Operating Officer of Oando Marketing Plc, Mrs. Olaposi Williams who was equally elated about the visit and presentation of gift items.

How do you feel?

I feel very good. It is full of fun. It is our pleasure to be with these children and to show that we care for them. We also let them know that we love them.

What informed the initiative of celebrating with the less privileged on an occasion like this?

It is in the spirit of corporate giving otherwise known as corporate philanthropy which is a bigger corporate social responsibility leveraging the season of giving created by St. Valentine, the season of love.

Considering these children are called orphans who one way or the other lost their parents, we need to show them love and  we should let them know they are important.

What is the economic significance to Oando, what impact will this type of visitation have on O-Gas?

It is more of increase in shareholder value and positive brand image acceptance. Also, we need to understand this is Nigeria and we are in an environment where we need to give back.

So, when we see where to give back, it is our civic responsibly to do that. So, I thank Lagos state for giving us the opportunity to do that.

Why the choice of this orphanage?

These children have no relatives. Oando deemed it fit to associate and make them feel important. These children need our collective support.

My advice to Nigerians is that we should buy the culture of sharing love with the less privileged of this kind either as corporate entity or corporate organization.

What benefits would the orphanage get from this visitation?

Apart from celebrating Valentine with them, Oando will give them gas burners and cylinders for the children and a cook out with our O-Gas stoves.

Does Oando plan to make it a continuous project or a one-off initiative?

This will be a continuous project. And it may interest you to know that Oando has adopted about 50 schools through Oando Foundation Initiative programmes around the country.

Oando has other events as well. Apart from the social responsibility we do, we would continue to do it as far we are given an opportunity. We would extend it to centres like this and continue to show love and kindness.
