Obadeyi, Lagos kidnappers den update: CDAs reinforce vigilante groups

To keep vigil

– As fear still envelopes the atmosphere

The kidnappers’ den discovered on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Obadeyi -Ajala area of Agbado-Ijaiye, Lagos still remains a very hot debate among many Lagosians, especially the residents of the area as people still gathered today (Thursday, August 10, 2017) at the spot discussing the shocking incident.

However, one of the residents who spoke to encomium.ng in confidence described the occurence as shocking and unbelievable. He added that various Community Development Associations (CDAs) in the area have started reinforcing members of Vigilante in their respective communities to start keeping vigil at suspected escape routes for the rest of the criminals who are yet to be fished out.

“Everybody in this area is still in fear. In fact, let me say the truth, we’re yet to come out of the shock. Despite the police presence around the place, all Community Development Associations around Agbado-Ijaiye, Abule Egba have met on the issue. I learnt they have all resolved to contract the security of the whole vicinity to the Vigilante groups in the area who are mainly Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) members. Parents have also been warned against sending their wards outside after 7 pm, while the residents have also been advised to be returning home before 12 midnight to avoid being unnecessarily harassed by vigilante members who will be positioned at strategic places within the vicinity.

“Now, no further arrest has been made but we’re still sure the criminals are still under the ground. They too will be looking for a way to escape. That’s why we’re all keeping vigil. And the main thing agitating the minds of many around here is that the canal leads to many places. That’s why we’re confused. Even, the police can’t penetratee the tunnel even with their security dogs. But all we’re sure of is that the perpetrators will soon be caught because people in this area are very serious about it.They can’t hide there forever. I learnt one of them even confessed that there are other five dens along this Lagos/Abeokuta express road which are yet to be discovered. That means a lot of people might have been victims of this ugly circumstance. We’re appealing to our amiable governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and Lagos Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni to take the issue of the security of the area and other parts of Lagos state more serious to curb kidnapping which is now getting rampant in the state.

Efforts of encomium.ng to get the development concerning the incident from the Lagos state Command’s spokesperson, ASP Olarinde Smart Cole didn’t yield the desired results as his mobile phone was not available. Also, the text we sent to him was not replied at the time this report was compiled.
