Obasa, Tejuosho embrace each other at party

FOR those who think all is not well with Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of Lagos House of Assembly and his friend and fellow highest ranking member of the Assembly, Hon. Adefunmilayo Tejuoso, they probably have to eat their words.

The two highest ranking members of the Assembly did not only greet each other recently but openly embraced.

The open affection between the two lawmakers was at the traditional cum engagement of Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire’s son on Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Ruby Gardens, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lekki, Lagos.

Rt. Hon. Obasa, was already seated at the front table with his wife by his left and Hon. Bayo Osinowo by his right, when Hon. Adefunmilayo Tejuoso sauntered in with her husband, Prince Kayode Tejuoso.

As she got to the front table, she greeted every other guests at the table but when she got to Obasa, who was already standing up, they embraced each other and Obasa pecked her cheeks.

The two did not only embrace each other, they joined Hon. Osinowo on the dance floor with the couple.

Prior to this open affection between the two, the rumour mill had it that all had not been well between them since the tussle for the Speakership of the Assembly in which both were contenders. The situation between them became worse three weeks ago when Hon. Tejuoso, openly rejected the chairmanship of the house committee allocated to her as the Speaker was about to bring the proceedings of the day to an end.

Hon. Tejuoso’s behavior on the floor was condemned by other members which warranted her tendering an apology to the Speaker and the whole House that Monday, November 16, 2015.  But she insisted she would not accept the chairmanship of the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Petition and LASIEC given to her.

ENCOMIUM Weekly gathered that Hon. Osinowo, a.k.a Pepper, who many members regarded as Baba Egbe (leader of the party) in the Assembly called Hon. Tejuoso into his office to pacify her.  Could what we saw at Princess Adefulire son’s wedding be a result of Hon. Osinowo’s reconciliatory efforts?  Because prior to that Saturday, Hon. Tejuosho had not related socially with Rt. Hon. Obasa since he became Speaker.

For instance, on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, when the Speaker turned 43 and some members who called themselves friends of the Speaker organized an impromptu birthday dinner for him at Jade Restaurant on Isaac John, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, Hon. Tejuosho was one of the few honourable members that were conspicuously absent.

Again, on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, when the Speaker was honoured with a chieftaincy title in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and many members relocated to Abeokuta, to felicitate with the Speaker, Hon. Tejuoso was also conspicuously absent.

Those in the know said prior to the speakership tussle, Hon. Obasa and Tejuoso were very close.  They said Hon. Layode, Hon. Abdoubag Balogun and Hon. Obasa are the closest allies of Hon. Funmi Tejuoso in the Assembly.
