Ogun Begins 171 Rural, 25 Semi-urban Road Projects

The Ogun State Government has commenced the construction of 171 rural and 25 semi-urban roads across the 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

The 171 “ogun standard” rural roads, include, 60 in Ogun Central, 66 in Ogun East and 45 in Ogun West. The 25 semi-urban roads will be constructed across the state.

Special Adviser to the State Governor on Rural Development, Mr. Wale Ogunyomade, in a statement, said all the projects will be completed within six months of commencement.

He said that the State and Local Governments as well as LCDAS have secured necessary approval to execute the projects as part of their statutory mandate.

Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga, who oversees the Ministry, had earlier said that the construction of rural roads would promote socio–economic development of the rural communities and also reduce the migration of rural dwellers to over populate urban areas.

According to her, the development would promote agricultural activities in the rural communities, thereby improving the standard of living of the people.

She added that the semi-urban roads will provide access road where there is need for parallel roads to ease traffic.
