Ogun Embraces World Bank/DAWN Effort  on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway

The Ogun State Government has pledged to collaborate with relevant stakeholders on innovations that will complement the drive of government in its Mission to Rebuild the state.
Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa made this known in Abeokuta while receiving a delegation from the World Bank and the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission in the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta yesterday (March 15, 2017).
Adeoluwa, who noted that the Lagos- Ibadan corridor was bastardised before the inception of the present administration, reaffirmed the determination of the Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led government to ensure prudent management of resources and restore sanity on the axis.
The SSG pointed our that the present administration is working hard to ensure efficient land management and also deal with environmental degradation occasioned by population explosion.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Arc. Olamilekan Adegbite, in his address, highlighted some of the control measures being put in place by the state government, adding that arrangements have been concluded to build a 2000-hectare city as well as trailer parks on the long stretch road.
Adegbite said that the government is also working on an International Commodity Market at Ogere, a new Makun city to cater for the growing population, as well as provide a rail linkage along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Adepeju Adebajo and her counterpart in the Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun, revealed that there are plans to enhance Agro Processing, remove illegal shanties and reclaim the necessary setbacks needed for development along the axis.
Speaking on the purpose of the visit, Leader of the team, Mr. Adedotun Seyingbo disclosed that World Bank and the DAWN Commission are looking at the Lagos/Ibadan corridor enhancement project.
“We are here to understand the priorities of the Ogun State government on the road, so as to appropriately carry the state along in our efforts at transforming the corridor”, he added.
