Ogun gets N70 billion multinational investment

Investment worth N70 billion has been attracted to Ogun State in the last five years while another N6 billion has again been recorded this year through viable economic policies of Government aimed at promoting its investment performance index.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun while playing host to the Management team of a Multinational Company, Nestle Nigeria Plc led by its Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Dharnesh Gordhon who was on a courtesy visit to his Oke-mosan office in Abeokuta, commended the company’s investment drive in spite of economic challenges confronting the nation, saying that the present administration would not relent in its drive to provide conducive environment for industrial development across the State.

Amosun further assured the company of Government’s support as it plans to further invest N9billion in the State in 2017, saying that Government would continue to collaborate with more investors not only for mutual benefits but to further increase investment in the State.

He enjoined industries in the State to always maintain clean and safe environment and endeavour to source their materials from local farmers, explaining that it would go a long way in promoting grassroots farming and socio-economic development of the people.

In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nestle Nigeria PLC, Mr. Dharnesh Gordhon said the visit was to commend Government’s investor-friendly policy which has attracted huge investment opportunities in the State.

He noted that the State industrial policy has inspired the company to propose an investment of N9billion next year to boost the industrial profile of the company in the State, notwithstanding the socio- economic challenges confronting the nation.

Mr Gordhon said 2,000 indigenes of the State were directly employed in the company’s operation and distribution lines while another 2,000 employees though not indigenes of the State were also employed in the company production line, assuring the Governor of the company’s determination to continue to abide by the State industrial policy.

 

 

ADOPT MODERN METHOD OF TEACHING: MUJOTA CHARGES SCIENCE TEACHERS

Science teachers in Ogun State have been charged to embrace the use of modern teaching methodology and go beyond theoretical to practical method of teaching.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Modupe Mujota gave the advice while playing host to the Executive Members of Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) led by its Chairman, Mr Abayomi Onanuga in Abeokuta.

Mujota said teaching all over the world has gone beyond limiting oneself as a teacher to the four walls of the classroom rather, modern methods of teaching has become essential to inculcating knowledge.

According to her, teachers are expected to make teaching session interactive and practical-oriented rather than pure theoretical teachings which have characterized it in recent times.

‘’As science teachers, let us make teaching interesting and use modern methods of teaching. It is by so doing that teaching will be effective through improved performance in examinations’’, Mujota said.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Chairman, (STAN) Ogun State Chapter, Mr Abayomi Onanuga stated that the objective of the Association was to raise the standard of science subjects and bring members together to promote education at all levels of education.

He disclosed that the association has won many laurels for the State through Junior Engineers and Technical Subjects (JETS) competition.

 

OGSG URGES NIGERIANS TO BE PROUD OF HOME MADE GOODS

A call has gone to Nigerians to be proud of Made in Nigeria products by patronising and showcasing them at any available opportunity in order to boost small and medium scale businesses across the country.

Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru made this call during a courtesy visit by the Tony Elumelu Foundation in Abeokuta.

He admonished Nigerians to patronise Made in Nigeria goods, disclosing that this would enable Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to thrive as well boost economic activities across the country.

Commending Tony Elumelu for his philanthropic gestures and the passion towards reducing youth unemployment, Ashiru said it was high time Nigerians moved away from searching for white collar jobs, adding that small and medium scale business is more lucrative now in the country.

‘’Nigeria Youths need to stop looking for white collar jobs that is not forth coming. Nigerians are highly intelligent and focused, most Nigerian youths are making success in SMEs in the country’’,Ashiru said.

Ashiru said SMEs were strong drivers for any Country to thrive economically, saying that it was a sure way of creating wealth and employment.

Speaking earlier, the Chief Operating Officer of the Foundation, Mrs Abimbola Adebakin said the Foundation was aimed at supporting 1,000 entrepreneurs annually, adding that the foundation seeks the State Government support towards providing enabling environment for SMEs to thrive.

She said the Foundation would continue to support, train and monitor the entrepreneurs who key into the programme.
