ON Wednesday, March 2, 2011, ENCOMIUM Weekly had a chat with the 2010 Gulder Ultimate Search winner and Airtel ambassador, Oluwaremi Oyekunle. The 24 year-old told us about his reign, what stardom has done for him and also what has changed about him.
What has been happening to you?
I have been very busy, I have been doing a lot of things after I left the jungle. I have been doing a couple of things, like movies and modelling jobs.
How did you get the Airtel deal?
I am into modelling, I got the deal like a model. I got the deal before GUS.
How much is it worth?
It was okay, the fee was good.
How does it feel to be an Airtel ambassador at this stage of your career?
I feel normal, it’s something I wanted and have been working for it and I got it. It was cool.
How did you spend the money you won at GUS?
How I spent it? I will like to leave that out of our discussion. I will not want to disclose it because it’s my money, my cash prize.
What has becoming a GUS winner done for you?
It has been a very good platform for me. It took me to my present status, lifted my career and so far, God has been helping me.
What has it not done for you?
I think there is nothing it has not done for me. Whatever God is involved in on your behalf, you will achieve it.
What has changed about you?
I am still myself, Oluwaremi Oyekunle. The only thing that has changed about me is that I am a star now, I am more popular, but I still remain humble.
Do you still keep your old friends or you have dumped them?
I still keep my friends. I don’t like the word old friends because they are still my friends and they still have that space in my heart. Though I have met a couple of new friends, I still have my friends.
What’s your experience like since you got into stardom?
The experience has been good. I have met people, had a lot of connections, a lot of new vision and dreams. Now, I can speak and people would listen.
How do you control fame?
I don’t think someone can control stardom because wherever God wants you to be, you will get there.
What is the greatest challenge facing your career at the moment?
I don’t have any challenge. I think right now, I have a big platform to take off. Even before GUS, I had been living life the way it comes. I don’t have any challenge.
There is a rumour that you spent your cash prize on women, how true is this?
That’s a rumour as you said and I will like to leave it as that. I didn’t spend my cash prize on women. I have a lot of female fans, I didn’t squander my money. I invested heavily, I did not spend it lavishly.
Are you into any relationship?
Yes, I am in a relationship and I will like to leave it like that.
Do you plan to marry her, if no, why?
I don’t know. Man proposes and God disposes. You don’t know what can happen in the next minute. Let’s just believe that whatever God wants, it will always come to pass.
Where will you like to see yourself in five years?
I see myself, my manager, the company I work with standing in the forefront of the entertainment industry in Nigeria, be it modelling, acting, even in academics.
