Former Osun State Deputy Governor, Iyiola Omisore, who has been in the custody of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of receiving over N1.3 billion from a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.),has been released by the anti-graft agency after meeting his bail condition.
He was released on Friday, July 22, 2016, after reportedly reaching an agreement with EFCC to make a refund of the money he allegedly got from Dasuki . The money is said to be part of the N4.7bn wired to the account of Sylvan McNamara, a company belonging to former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and his sons, from the office of the National Security Adviser under the leadership of Dasuki .
Omisore, who was arrested on July 3, 2016, was granted administrative bail by the EFCC according to a Premium Times report, which stated that he paid the first instalment of N300million before he was allowed to go home.
The former Governorship aspirant of Osun State had sought hard for his freedom. He was denied bail application by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Abuja on Friday July 15, 2016.
The anti-graft body has said it will charge Omisore alongside Mr. Abiodun Agbele, an aide to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State over N4.7 billion fraud.
Mr. Abiodun Agbele was alleged to have coordinated the transfer and disbursement of N1.219billion out of the N4.7bn from Obanikoro to Fayose for the prosecution of the later’s election in 2014.
Confirming his release, Omisore said through Tribune, “Thanks for your support and prayers. I also thank my supporters for their steadfastness. I’m back at home in Abuja.”
