Oscar Pistorius found guilty of girlfriend’s murder

South African sprint runner, Oscar Pistorius (29), has been found guilty of murder of his girlfriend,  Reeva  Steenkamp by the Supreme Court in South Africa today ( Thursday, December 3, 2015).
Pistorius, who shot Reeva four times through a locked door in February 2013, may be sentenced to 15 years in jail by a panel of judges in the South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal.
One of judges, Justice Lorimer Leach while reading the ruling said that having armed himself with a high calibre weapon, Pistorius must have foreseen that whoever was behind the door might die.
They also faulted the ruling of the lower court for not applying correctly the rule of dolus eventualis (this is when the perpetrator objectively foresees the possibility of his act causing death and persists regardless of the consequences, suffices to find someone guilty of murder).
He has been under house arrest after spending one year of his original five year in jail.
Ms. Steenkamp’s mother was present at the hearing, but Pistorius was absent.
