Oscar Pistorius now broke and broken, spent N300 m on trial

The incredible story of Oscar Pistorious’ rise from disabled child to world-class athlete embodies the very best of sporting endeavour and the human spirit and as Time magazine proclaimed in its 2012 list of the world’s most influential people, “He is the definition of global inspiration”.

However, his story is no longer as inspiring after he undid all the good work he had done over the years in the early hours of Valentines Day in 2013 at his Pretoria home, when he shot and killed his 29-year-old girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, believing her to be an intruder.

Now in Jail, after he was yesterday (Tuesday, October 21, 2014) sentenced to five years in prison, his lawyer Barry Roux (who charges up to £5,000 or N1.35 million) a day revealed in court that Pistorious is now “not only broke, but is broken… there is nothing left.”

Pistorius reportedly sent £1.1  million (almost N300 million) on legal fees.

His lawyer said, “He hasn’t even got money to pay for legal expenses. He’s lost his property. He’s not earned a penny since [he killed Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day last year]. He has no sponsors. He’s a person’s who’s down and out. He’s not only broke, he’s broken. There’s nothing left of this man.”
