State prosecutors in the trial of Oscar Pistorius have lodged an appeal against the conviction and sentence given to the athlete for killing his girlfriend. They want him convicted of murder and given a longer jail term.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesman, Nathi Mncube, said in a statement: “The appeal on conviction is based on the question of law.”
He continued: “This means that the matter is now officially sub judice and consequently the NPA will not be able to discuss the matter publicly until judgment is delivered by the court”.
Last month, Pistorius,27, a Olympics medalist, began serving a five-year prison sentence for the culpable homicide of Reeva Steenkamp, 29, although he could be out in 10 months.
