South African Blade runner, Oscar Pistorius offered R375,000 (N5.44m) to the family of girlfriend – Reeva Steenkamp – after he killed her, but the offer was turned down as the family said they did not want “blood money”, a prosecutor said today (October 14) at the sentencing hearing for the paralympian.
The revelations emerged while chief prosecutor, Gerrie Nel, was cross-examining a social worker over what Pistorius’ punishment should be for shooting Steenkamp. He also referred to separate monthly payments of R6,000 (N88,000) made by Pistorius to the family after they asked for help. Nel revealed, however, that the monies would be paid back in full.
