Osun workers lambast Aregbesola over creation of additional local governments

– Call him confutionist

Osun civil servants have described the recently created 31 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), in addition to the already existing 30 Local Government Areas in the state, as a misplaced priority by the man at the helms of affairs of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, labeling him a confusionist.
Speaking with encomium.ng on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, one the aggrieved workers, Mr. Taofeek, a level 9 officer in the state, condemned the governor’s action out rightly. He added that the state is still gasping for breath over the payment of the outstanding salaries of its existing workers. So, creating new Local Councils will only compound the already worrisome situation of the state.
“Aregbesola is confused. I think he doesn’t really understand what the state needs at the moment. That’s why he created 31 new local governments. Osun state doesn’t need that now because the state is yet to get its bearing concerning the funding of the already existing 30 local governments.
“Most of us workers in the state didn’t welcome the idea because it will further aggravate our problems .But the man doesn’t listen to anybody. Now, we have not even received any alert this year for the half salary we have been collecting since July,2015.I learnt the state is terribly broke now, and there is no bailout any more from the Federal Government. And Osun is zero when it comes to Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). So, tell me, where will he get the money to fund 61 local governments now?”
Another worker, a local government staffer, also lampooned the governor, adding that he has jeopardized the chances of All Progressive Congress(APC) in the state against the next general elections, especially the gubernatorial one.
“Even, a man on the street knows the back logs of the problems of Osun as a state. The creation of new local governments was like a shock to many of us in the state, especially workers because we don’t know how he is going to cope with the payment of the salaries of the new workers for the new local councils and the newly appointed council executive secretaries.
“What I am sure of is that Aregbesola has forfeited APC’s chance of ruling the state again because workers are not happy with him at all. I can’t even remember when last I could afford to buy egg for my children, let alone myself and my wife. I can’t even remember the last time we cooked correct soup in my family because expecting salary, mostly, is a nightmare”.
Meanwhile, Governor Aregbesola has reportedly justified the creation of the LCDAs, claiming it’s to bring government closer to the people at the grassroots.
