Oyakhilome breaks silence on divorce mess (1)

‘Anita needs our prayers’

EMBATTLED Shepherd of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome was absent at the Church’s Praise/Thanksgiving Service held at their various parishes on Sunday, September 7, 2014.

A Christ Embassy’s spokesman, Mr Kenneth Achumasara had assured ENCOMIUM Weekly on Monday, September 1, 2014, we would see Pastor Chris and his estranged wife together next Sunday (September 7). The church holds Communion Services every month after a Praise session.

Thousands of members of Believers LoveWorld who stormed the church headquarters on Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos that Sunday to apparently hear first hand their beloved pastor’s ‘side of the story’ were obviously disappointed as the flamboyant billionaire preacher remained in Canada to round off an international Healing School program.

When ENCOMIUM Weekly’s reporters arrived the expansive church premises, we joined members in the worship laced with praises and prayers.  But from the beginning to the end, there was no direct message related to Pastor Chris and his wife Anita’s marital crisis.

The two church services were, however, programmed to exalt the teeming congregation who were encouraged to live in atmosphere of praise and thanksgiving.

“Pastor (Chris Oyakhilome) is proud of you.  You are in a ministry that works. Let the lifting up of your hands be a living sacrifice.  Offer unto God a sacrifice of praise.  Let the fruit of your lips confess His goodness.  You will be a surprise and wonder to your world. Praise gives room for more, abundance, surplus, extra and more than you have before.  It opens new doors.  You’ve delivered us from shame and turmoil.  You’ve made a light for us in this dark world.  You fight our battles. We thank you for the picture you’ve shown us.  Even in our challenges, we rejoice because we’ve seen the light,” a delectable lady pastor in LC 3b said while admonishing the over 1,000 members that prayed and offered praises to God Almighty.

Similar spirit of victory equally pervaded the first Lagos Zone 3 (LC 3b) electrifying Praise/Thanksgiving service that was not as massive as the 10.30 session.  There were also bouts of song ministration rendered by a joyous choir attired in lovely kneel length milk gowns with other colourful designs.  Their jobs that Sunday was to entertain the congregation and worship God with “the fruit of lips.”

Signs that members of Oyakhilomes church are not perturbed at all by the adultery allegation shaking the very foundation and roof of Christ Embassy/Believers LoveWorld were conspicuous in the way and manner the faithful go about their duties.

From the church security to workers and indeed the faithful, we didn’t hear them talk about Anita/Pastor Chris pending divorce suit in the United Kingdom.  Even when we had the effrontery to take some of Christ Embassy devotees on the scandal, they responded as if they were handed a defensive script.

“We’re not moved by what we hear or see,” two, three Christ Embassy pastors and fanatic  members reacted in response to our persistent inquiry on their take on their General Overseer’s marital challenges and allegation that adultery and unreasonable behaviour are to blame.

Another member, who simply said he’s Ozioma, claimed they are “unshakeable and immovable” adding that scandals build the church rather than affecting it negatively.

“My brother, we know our pastor.  Don’t listen to people.  We are going to have more members, mark this.  Anybody that leaves because of gossip will regret it because the church will even grow bigger.  Didn’t you notice there are more people here today (Sunday, September 7).”

One of our reporters who was given a treat as a First Timer also reported they were advised not to follow what the devil is saying about the church. Obviously alluding to Pastor Chris’ travails a Deacon explained that nobody talks about you when you are a nobody.  He also recalled that this is not the first time the international evangelist would be prosecuted. At the end of the day, he predicted, the church would be bigger.
