P-Square, Davido lead most popular celebs on social media

The likes of iconic pop duo, P Square; Africa’s leading movie goddesses, Omotola Ekeinde and Genevieve Nnaji; Supreme Mavin Dynasty boss, Don Jazzy, and young superstars, Davido and Wizkid all have one trait in common – they rule the Nigerian social media space.

With regular updates, interesting posts and cool photos which keep their fans wanting more; they are the celebrity kings and queens of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in Nigeria.

 
P Square – 5.48 million

After six albums, over 70 songs, many sold-out tours in Africa and around the world, three lovely kids and more than a decade of singing, dancing and entertaining, the pair of Paul and Peter Okoye of P Square
are still going strong.

They operate individual accounts across the different social media platforms with the exception of Facebook.
On Twitter, Paul has 451,000 followers, while the extroverted Peter has 965,000. On photo-sharing Instagram, Peter has 732,000 followers, Paul, on the other hand, has 326,000 followers. Their joint Facebook account has
3.02 million likes.

In all, they have garnered 5.48 million followers on social media.

 
Davido- 4.59 million

What a career the 23-year-old has had since he made the decision to do music professionally; and it has got even better for the young chap who welcomed his first child this year!

The self-styled Omo Baba Olowo is the most followed Nigerian celebrity on Instagram, he is followed by 1.3 million people. On Twitter, he has 1.51 million followers; and “liked” by 1.78 million on Facebook, totalling 4.59 million.

 
Wizkid – 4.19 million

The Ojuelegba crooner has not had any major hit song this years, that has not affected his popularity on social media. His followers just love him; some do because he’s a cool hip fella; others because he doesn’t shy away from flaunting his expensive stuffs on social media.

The father of one is the most popular Nigerian celebrities on Twitter with 1.78m followers; while 1.21m “like” him on Facebook. On the picture-dominated Instagram, he has 1.2m followers.

In all, 4.19 million people follow him on social media.

 
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde – 3.47 million

Actress, singer, youth and women advocate, mother of four children, wife are all monikers associated with one of Nigeria’s enduring beauties, Omotola Ekeinde. Now, you can add ‘most followed female celebrity on
social media’ to the list with her 3.47 million followers.

724,000 follow her on Twitter; while on Facebook, the captain’s wife is “liked” by 2.36 million and 395,000 follow her Instagram.

Sometimes, she plays the instructive mom; other times she plays the favourite sister, or the close friend. She also plays advocate, lending her voice to noble causes via social media.

 
Don Jazzy – 3.4 million

From the ruins of the now-extinct Mo’Hits, he has built one of Nigeria’s biggest music record companies, Mavin Records, with chart-topping artistes and hits. More than just the average music producer or record label boss, Don Jazzy is a superstar; his social media following is proof of that.

In all, he is followed by 3.4 million people on social media who he serves regularly with ridiculously funny memes, posts and pictures. He also tries to follows back, something that can’t be about most celebrities.
1.24 million follow him on Twitter; on Instagram, he has one million followers. On Facebook, he is “liked” by 1.16 million.

He plays counsellor, sharing insightful thoughts, or the downright palace court jester.

 

 

Genevieve Nnaji – 3.34 million

The ever elegant, ever beautiful and ever trendy Genevieve Nnaji is, unsurprisingly, a social media “big girl” with 3.34 million followers. Her Facebook likes stand at 1.47 million; while on Instagram where she
lets her fans into her world, she has almost a million followers (precisely 941,000) and on Twitter she is followed by 939,000.

 
D’banj – 3.18 million

D’banj has had so many nicknames that it is sometimes hard to keep up. During the early halcyon days, he’d introduce himself saying “I’m D’banj! Or Ski Banj like my Jamaican friends call me; or Capella like my South
African friends call me; or Mensah like my Ghanaians call me.” He is also known as Koko master, Mr Endowed, Eja nla (meaning big fish), bangalee and more recently “white lion”; there’ll be probably be more
in future.

Interestingly, he has as many followers on social media as hiss obriquets, even more. He is one of the most followed Nigerian celebrities on Twitter with 1.3 million followers; 1.39 “like” him on Facebook, while on Instagram he has almost half a million followers (497,000); totalling 3.18 million.

 

 

Ice Prince – 2.77 million

Everybody loves Ice Prince goes the title of his debut album, and on the evidence of his social media popularity, almost everybody, precisely 2.77 million, loves Ice Prince.

The Chocolate City Music vice president is followed by 740,000 on Twitter, 863,000 on Instagram and “liked” by 1.17 million on Facebook.
Banky W – 2.77 million

EME boss, Banky W has lived up to his Mr Capable moniker with his impressive following on social media.
The RnB crooner is followed by 1.18 million on Twitter, by 451,000 on Facebook and by 513,000 on Instagram – totalling 2.77 million.

 
2 Face – 2.47 million

The multi award-winning 2 Face Idibia is one of Nigeria’s enduring contemporary music legends, who has always looked a cut above his peers.

The recently-turned 40-year-old has 533,000 “likes” on Facebook; while on Twitter he has 1.24 million followers. On Instagram, he has 702,000 followers; bringing it to 2.47 million.
