Enthralling details of Sunday, Nov. 17 colourful ceremony
Billionaires, polticos, artistes grace star-studded gig
The traditional wedding between P-Square’s Peter Obumeneme Okoye and Titilola Loretta Omotayo might have come and gone, but what people will not easily forget is the array of society pillars that graced the nuptials held on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at The Ark Event Centre, Victoria-Island, Lagos. The much-talked about wedding had the crème de la crème of the society, and ENCOMIUM Weekly brings you all the happenstances from what can best be described as one of the biggest, star-studded wedding in the year 2013.
If one doesn’t know the love story of the elated couple, one wouldn’t understand why they spent so much time, energy and money to plan the superlative traditional; why many of their colleagues and friends, home and abroad thronged the popular event centre despite the fact that the groom is one of the biggest artistes in Africa. It’s indeed a true love story that started couple of years ago.
According to the bride, an indigene of Osogbo, Ifelodun Local Government, Osun State, I love Peter because he was never intimidated. When I met him, he was just trying to build himself and I was very proud of him. I have a lot of respect for him, his talent and I saw that he had a vision. Peter doesn’t get intimidated by anything; in fact, he supports and encourages me all the time. I think he’s happy that he doesn’t have to do everything; he can rely on me that I will take care of our kids.
How the ceremony started
The wedding rites started quite late, at about 3:15pm.comedian Gbenga Adeyinka introduced himself as the host of the colourful wedding as he also welcomed the guests. As the proceedings continued, Gbenga called on the groom’s family to officially kick-off the event with songs of praise, which they did with admiration. While that was ongoing, some of the expected guests amongst them were celebrities, politicos, captains of industry started arriving in batches.
Helen Paul missing
Comedianne, Helen Paul didn’t make Peter’s superlative wedding to Lola, the mother of his two kids, Cameron and Aliona. We learnt she attended another show in London, which was held same date. Although, Gbenga Adeyinka covered-up for the missing Helen, her absence was felt.
The Marriage rites proper
It’s almost 4pm, the marriage engager otherwise known as Alaga-ijoko in Yoruba land conducted the rites, which include the prostration of honour by the groom’s friends (excluding the elderly ones) leaded by Paul, the twin brother of the celebrant. They did that several time before Lola’s father, Mr. Oladipo Adewale Omotayo; Mum, Mrs Alevtina Aliona Omotayo; and other members of the family. The rites lasted for more than one hour.
The groom, Peter arrived the venue in his customised Range Rover with special plate number MR.P. He was ushered in by his friends, as they conducted another prostration respect, but this time, it was headed by Peter himself. The joy of getting married was seen all over Peter’s face as he exchanged pleasantry with guests, thanking them for gracing the occasion. He was later joined by his first son, Cameron, who claded in the same brown attire with his dad.
While Peter continued exchanging pleasantry, his beautiful bride, Lola was drove into the venue in a White Range Rover. She was accompanied by gorgeously dressed friends, as she took her seat in-between her parents. She later joined her husband at the specially decorated chairs with boom light that illuminates the hall.
When Paul’s fiance read bride’s letter
When it was time for bride’s letter to be read to the groom, many expected to see a younger female from the bride family to read it based on Yoruba tradition, but a pretty lady stood before all and read it eloquently. By the time her name was mentioned, it became obvious that the lady was Anita, Paul’s fiance and mother of his kid, Andre.
What the couple wore at the reception
After a successful traditional wedding ended at 5:30pm, Mr. and Mrs. Okoye appeared in another attire for the reception proper. This was the second time they were changing cloth. The reception commenced at 6:35pm, the couple graced the stage the second time, the bride wore a pink buba and velvet green wrapper with matching pink shoes. The groom wore all-white attire (buba and trouser), except for his cap which was red.
Flavour performed Ada Ada
Kora award winner, Flavour was the first artiste to perform at the L.P, an acronyms for Lola and Peter’s wedding. His newest and hit song, Ada Ada was the perfect song for such event, and the Adanma crooner didn’t disappoint guests as he delivered it perfectly.
KCee Limpopo the crowds
Rave of the moment, Limpopo master, KCee didn’t waste the chance of performing at the wedding as he conveniently made guests danced to his hits songs, Okoso and Limpopo.
Kukere Master, Iyanya also thrilled as he ignited the audience while he asked them to hold their waist. While performing his second song, Jombolo, Flavour joined him on stage since it was a collaboration between the duo.
Others that performed at the show included Banky W, who sang Yes or No, J-martins featuring DJ Arafat and Lynxxx dedicated his marriage song, Fine Fine Lady, to the couple. To tell their guests “thank you”, the celebrant, Peter and his brother Paul otherwise known as P-Square sang Personally.
The performances continued as at the time ENCOMIUM Weekly left by 8pm.
Perfect Co-ordinators were in-charge of the all round event. They provided all the service providers and were up and doing all through the wedding
The 100-seater hall was decorated by The Wedding Guru. The marquee was embellished with white drapery, and a touch of blue here and there.
