Pa Kasumu acquires 3-bedroom bungalow in Abeokuta

– Denies being blind

THE prayer of ailing veteran actor, Kayode Odumosu to relocate from his noisy and congested Mushin, Lagos residence has been answered.  And this is authoritative.

ENCOMIUM Weekly was informed by an industry source that the comic actor has acquired a 3-bedroom bungalow in the ancient town of Abeokuta, Ogun State. Not only that, the source also said that the Odogbolu, Ogun born film maker will soon move to his new abode.

The new house, we were told, is worth N3m.  And it’s near Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) area of the town.  This new and long awaited development, according to the source, has given the family of the sick comedian a big relief.

“Pa Kasumu is happy at the moment. His dream to vacate his rented apartment in Mushin, Lagos has been realized.  I learnt he has just acquired a 3-bedroom bungalow, worth N3m in Abeokuta.  Although, the building is still undergoing massive renovation, in a matter of weeks he should be moving into it.  The entire family is happy about the development. The new house, I also learnt, drained Pa Kasumu’s account.  But he is very much joyous that he will soon move to a quiet environment in line with his wish and prayer.”

Confirming the good news, Mrs. Idowu Olajide, co-ordinator of Save Pa Kasumu Initiative said, “It’s true but the structure is still being renovated.  But by the special grace of God, Pa Kasumu will move in to the new house before the end of March.”

Asked to disclose the worth of the bungalow, she says, “The truth is that I know he has acquired the property out of the money people donated to him, and that it is in Abeokuta.  But the exact amount he bought it is what I am yet to confirm.  Anytime I do that, I will let you know.”

Asked to shed light on the tale that the ace comedian has gone blind, Mrs. Olajide reacted, “Don’t mind the rumour mongers, Pa Kasumu is not blind.  We all know that the ailment actually affected his vision.  That’s why he is using glasses and he is getting better.  Those who said that are only misleading the public.  I believe you also visited him recently, and you can confirm what I am saying.”

However, the family, in a letter of appreciation sent to ENCOMIUM Weekly on Saturday, February 22, 2014, thanked good-hearted Nigerians and the governments of Lagos and Ogun States for the quick intervention towards saving the comic actor.

The letter signed by Mrs. Olajide reads:

“On behalf of Mr. Kayode Odumosu, a.k.a Pa Kasumu, his family, friends and well wishers, we wish to express our profound gratitude to all kind-spirited Nigerians within and outside the country who expressed their solidarity with us in cash and kind in response to our clarion call to save ace actor, Mr. Odumosu from the clutches of death.

“We are indeed grateful to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) and His Ogun State counterpart, Governor Ibikunle Amosun for their kind intervention and donations.

“We must also mention the efforts of his colleagues in ANTP.  The young men and women who gave their time and resources to join the Save Pa Kasumu Organisation and all who donated their widow’s mite.

“We must also acknowledge the invaluable support of the distinguished members of the press. We pray that God Almighty will continue to use you all as positive agents for the progress of this country.

“We also deemed it necessary to provide the general public with an update on our activities thus: At the inception of this campaign, the estimation was that N12m will effectively address Pa Kasumu’s life-long health management given that he has not been working for years and may not be able to engage in any employment.  The need to rehabilitate and relocate him from his rented apartment to a suitable accommodation was also taken into consideration to wit either to acquire a flat or rent for which he has to pay rent for years to come.

“It was considered as at then that he should be flown abroad for treatment.  A consideration which has been put on hold in view of the fact that he has now been empowered by our collective intervention to comply with the medication and other needs as prescribed by his doctors and other health professionals.

“Due to our collective efforts, a total of N6.1 million was raised through direct lodgement into Pa Kasumu’s Diamond Bank account.  It must also be noted that Pa Kasumu’s case requires life-long management and care principally to prevent secondary repeat stroke.

“Worthy of note that the diagnosis and prognosis at the First Cardiology Consultants, Ikoyi, Lagos, was in accord with the course he has been on with at which the family of Pa Kasumu have engaged the services of physiotherapist and have acquired gadgets as recommended for his physiotherapy.

“A dietician was also consulted for advice and he has been strictly following the recommendations.

“Further, efforts being made by his family to relocate him from his rented abode at Mushin, Lagos to a more suitable environment.  We must also state that whatever is realized for Pa Kasumu is for the sole purpose of his healthcare, rehabilitation and well being.

“We, hereby, thank each and everyone who has contributed to the matter of Pa Kasumu, and we pray that Almighty God will in His infinite mercies continue to provide for you all.”
