Parents on how they are preparing for the next academic session (2)

2016/2017 academic session will commence in September. Amazingly, most parents are not sure of meeting up with their responsibilities, most especially now that the country is going through economic recession.

ENCOMIUM Weekly sampled the opinion of parents on how they are preparing for the forthcoming academic session…

OLU AKANJI

How are you preparing for your children’s resumption for the 2016/2017 academic session?

I am far from being prepared. August is almost coming to an end in less than a month, my children would be going back to school. I have three of them in boarding house and one is still in primary school. We have not bought all the necessary things they would need for the term. Their school fees is also not yet complete.

Have your children’s school fees increased?

Yes, of course. The school increased its boarding house fees by N10,000. I don’t really blame them, it is the reality of things on ground.

How do you hope to cope with the current economic recession as regards payment of school fees?

I don’t have an answer to that. I only rely on the grace of God. All my plans have not worked out so far, so I am left with no alternative than to keep calling on God for assistance.

MARK OJEI

How are you preparing for your children’s resumption for the 2016/2017 academic session?

We are getting ready in bits. My wife has started buying the necessary things the children need for the next academic session. She will visit the school next week to purchase some textbooks for the children.

Have your children’s school fees increased?

No, there was no increment. There was an increment last year, there shouldn’t be one this year.

How do you hope to cope with the current economic recession as regards payment of school fees?

God has been faithful. We have been able to purchase some items by God’s grace. We will complete the rest when school resumes.

JOHNSON ISHOLA

How are you preparing for your children’s resumption for the 2016/2017 academic session?

By God’s grace, we are preparing. I have paid my first child’s school fees, we hope to make payment for the second one next week. When they resume, we will take their teller to the school.

Have your children’s school fees increased?

There was increment in transportation fees so we decided to look for alternative. They will stop taking bus to and fro. I am making arrangement with one of our neighbours. His wife will be free to pick all of them after closing while I drop my children and theirs before going to work.

How do you hope to cope with the current economic recession as regards payment of school fees?

Thank God that we were able to make alternative arrangement for their transportation. If not, I wouldn’t be able to pay their fees now. Transport fees for each child is N30,000 and I have two children in the school, that alone is almost enough to pay for their school fees. God that has helped us to pay for one will provide for us so that we can pay for the other one too.

MRS. AYINDE BUKOLA

How are you preparing for your children’s resumption for the 2016/2017 academic session?

We thank God, though I am far from being prepared. Business has been very slow. I am just praying that things would pick up before the school resumes. Buying of socks and other things would be done by their mother. My own is just to pay school fees.

Have your children’s school fees increased?

No, there was no increment. If they had increased it, I would just withdraw them and take them to a neighbouring school.

How do you hope to cope with the current economic recession as regards payment of school fees?

I pray business gets better. A lot of people owe me. Most of them will just give part payment and promise to complete payment later.

There was increment, I protested because I have not paid the outstanding bill and they are adding more to it.

ANDREW OKOYE

We hope to start that next month. I am already saving for their school fees though the savings is nothing to write home about, but it is better than nothing. Their mother is also working towards next month. We would put all we have together and pay in installment.

Have your children’s school fees increased?

No, they did not increase their school fees. That was my prayer before the school vacated. I even had to attend parent/teacher’s meeting and it was one of the issues I raised. I was happy the school reasoned with parents.

How do you hope to cope with the current economic recession as regards payment of school fees?

The school will extend deadline for payment. They are also aware that times are hard. I will pay installment by God’s grace.

Have your children’s school fees increased?

Yes, they increased their fees and we changed their school. At least the school we took them to charge N30,000 less. It’s still a means of saving money.

OLABISI DANIEL

How are you preparing for your children’s resumption for the 2016/2017 academic session?

I am not preparing yet. I have part payment of their fees, so, I am not bothered about it. Once I pay what I have, the school will bear with us till I can afford the rest.

Have your children’s school fees increased?

No. if they had, I would have withdrew them.

I am trying my best. My son is about to enter JSS1 and his fees is N100,000. Right now, I am scouting for a cheaper school with standard that is also affordable. None of my children are attending summer lesson because I cannot afford it and God will not allow it get to the stage of taking them to a public school.
