Parliamentarian Joseph Danquah assassinated

It was a sad day for the family of late Parliamentarian,  Joseph Boakye Danquah and the entire nation when it was announced at a press conference organized by the Ghanaian Police on  February  7, 2016, that the easy going and ever smiling politician and business man was stabbed to death in his bedroom in East Legon, around 1.25am while he was sleeping. The alleged killer gained access into his bedroom by climbing a ladder that was in the compound since it’s a one storey building, opened the bedroom window which had no ‘burglary proof’ and murdered the victim by stabbing him in the ribs and after some struggle sealed the fate of the MP by stabbing his abdomen.

Many, especially members of the great opposition party, National Patriotic Party (NPP), however, believe that the assassination was a premeditated case, because the killer went straight for the victim in his bedroom and did not make any attempt to hurt his wife and children who were sleeping in their rooms downstairs while the heinous act was going on. Or maybe, they were saved by the action of the security guard who, after noticing the ladder was no longer where it was supposed to be and heard the struggle from his master’s bedroom,

ran out to call for help. On sighting the security guard together with others in the area the assassin quickly escaped through the back door leaving one of his scandals behind and his foot print in blood on the wall.

By the time the police got to the hospital with late JB Danquah, he was pronounced dead. Immediately, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police swung into action by arresting the security guard, his driver and three others as suspects. The police believe they must know something about the whole case, especially the security guard. After gathering enough forensic evidence at the scene of the incident, the police promised 10,000ghc to anybody who is able to come with any information that could help with the investigation of the gruesome murder of the MP.

Consequently, on Thursday, the police announced the arrest of one Daniel Asiedu, a remand prisoner and beneficiary of the Justice for All Programme, when no evidence was found to convict him of the alleged criminal offence which brought him to prison. He was said to have taken two phones he took from the late politician’s house to a phone repairer for decoding at a popular market in Accra. The repairer, upon seeing the late MP’s face as the screen saver and that of former President Kuffour as the screen lock, quickly alerted the police.  He was traced to his hideout where he was arrested. He confessed to the crime with two other accomplices ; Avenger and Agogo Junior who are on the run. Efforts are being made by the Ghana Police with the help of the suspects to track down the other two alleged culprits and bring them to book.

The late politician was survived by his wife and two children. Encomium Weekly promises to bring you more about the murder as it unfolds.
