PATIENCE JONATHAN resurfaces in Okrika, Rivers State, + Why she has been incommunicado

NIGERIA’s First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan resurfaced after concerns was raised over her whereabouts after the March 28, 2015 presidential election.

Sighted at her Okrika, Rivers ancestral hometown, Patience was vigorously campaigning for her political ‘godson’ and PDP governorship candidate, now Rivers Governor-elect, Chief Nyesom Wike.

Mrs. Jonathan’s absence after her hubby’s defeat by the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, raised anxiety at the presidential villa, especially when she missed the Good Friday and Easter Sunday services and other activities she had always been part of.

Not even her media managers’ assurance that she was very much okay, could douse the apprehension over her whereabouts.  And trust the category of Nigerians tagged harbingers of rumours and misfortunes, they quickly went to town with all sorts of explanations for her absence.

First was the rumour, the First Lady had relocated home, following Jonathan’s shocking defeat.  They also claimed she was so devastated by the loss that she fell sick and had to hurriedly vacate the Aso Rock Villa she had lived for almost eight years.

There was also this unconfirmed story that Mama Peace now feels more secure outside the villa as fears of her arrest and trial by the International Criminal Court (ICC) spread.

It was amidst these tales that the First Lady who played critical role in Jonathan’s campaign to return to office, resurfaced at Okrika, Rivers State a day before the Saturday, April 11, 2015 governorship and state House of Assembly polls.

Patience Jonathan was expected to play active role in the election which the PDP eventually won in Rivers State. And just few weeks to the official handover to the APC-led President Buhari, insiders and political pundits predict she would remain not-so-visible and incommunicado this transition period.
