MANY Nigerians have labeled the two leading political parties – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) – as the laboratories of high corruption on account of their mind boggling fees for nomination and expression of interest forms for political positions.
From Presidency, governorship, Senate, House of Reps and House of Assembly, only well-heeled Nigerians or those with access to the public till can purchase the forms which start from N1.2 million all the way to almost N30 million.
For the PDP, only those with access to N22 million (Presidency), N11 million (Governorship), N4.4 million (Senate), N2.4 million (House of Representatives) and N1.2 million (House of Assembly) can partake in the contest.
If you are a member of APC, you need N27.5 million (Presidency), N5.5 million (Governorship), N3.3 million (Senate), N2.2 million (House of Representatives) and N550,000 (House of Assembly).
Quite a number of Nigerians have described the fees as the root cause of corruption (encouraging those in those positions to look for ways and means of looting unabashedly).
