‘People’s commendation encouraged me to move on’ – Lepa Shandy’s brother, De Code

Idris Oluwatosin Omoniyi, otherwise known as De Code, has remained unstoppable since he started his career in 2010, as a rap artiste. A younger brother to popular actress, Shade Omoniyi-Adewale (Lepa Shandy), De Code who just dropped his new single, My Story has vowed not to relent until he gets to the top and become one of Africa’s most celebrated rappers.

In this interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly when he was cornered at a show in Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday, June 25, 2016, the Osun born talented artiste also spoke on other issues.

What has been the response from the public since you released your first single, The Truth from Toshies Entertainment?

It has been wonderful. Different sites, blogs, twitter and other social media platforms have been commenting positively on it. It’s on radio all over the country. People have commended the song, advising me to keep it up. I am really happy about that.

How much did it cost you and your management to put it up?

It’s a lot of money. It ran into millions. But what matters is that we achieved our aim. We thank God for everything.

When are you shooting the video?

The video is out already. They’re showing it on HipTV, other satellite and local television stations across the country. It’s already online. You can download it. The video is really nice, and many people have been giving good remarks about it.

What are you working on at the moment?

I just released my new single. And the song has been online on many social media platforms including jaguda.com and other entertainment sites. Also, they have been airing it on Radio Continental, Raypower and other stations. I think people love the song because their comments have really made me see myself as a big artiste, no more up and coming.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself as one of the best rappers in Nigeria, if not in the whole of Africa.

Have you been getting shows and concerts since you started rising to stardom?

I have been getting shows, different schools have been calling my manager for shows so also corporate organizations, hotels and club houses. But presently, the amount they pay me is nothing to write home about. For some universities, I don’t care if any money comes from them because I am also a student and I know what it takes to be a student at the moment, but other companies, they always price me the way I don’t like. They still see me as an up and coming artiste. But I have been performing at different shows and concerts.

A lot of people, especially music lovers always crave for more of my performance. They have adjudged me sexiest rapper because of my body and how I comport myself on stage. I give God the glory.

Are you planning to release an album?

Yes, we’re working on that and it will be released in November this year.

You have produced some singles before now?

Yes, that was under my former record label, including Be Mine, Omoge Jo Daada, Samote and others.

Are you enjoying your working relationship with your current record label?

Yes, the woman is really trying. I give it to her. I thank God for everything.
