Peter of P-Square’s, Dance with Peter-Glo deal stirs controversy – As the Okoye brothers part ways

DANCE with Peter, a new reality show packaged by Peter Okoye -one half of P-Square and sponsored by GLO – has berthed, but that’s not the story.

What’s trending is that the Okoye brothers (P-Square) are gradually going their different ways with Peter and Paul reportedly pursuing solo projects.

While Peter tends to focus on dance, Paul – adjudged a better singer and songwriter – would want to be doing just that.

“The days of P-Square as a group are numbered. As the guys grow, they think differently. And now they are both married, they drift apart the more,” a family friend recently revealed.

But another source familiar with the pop stars, told ENCOMIUM Weekly that what has kept the brand, P-Square is simply their commercial value.

“Clients are more interested in P-Square than Peter and Paul Okoye. You know the guys are smart Igbo business men. When you call them as P-Square, they would sure do business with you. They also pursue their individual projects like Peter’s new dance reality show. Peter, relying heavily on his wife’s connections in the corporate world, is also doing serious non-entertainment related business, in addition to show business.”

There are also skeptics who insist the abundantly talented twins are deeply divided when it comes to business interest. For this ‘school of thought,’ commercial interest or not, the Okoyes would definitely go solo.

“You don’t expect them to split when they are old and no longer relevant. I’m not saying it’s today, next month or this year, but it is certain,” one of them said.

However, a family friend of P-Square dismissed all of these ‘side talks as neither here nor there.’

“Don’t forget that the eventual winner would feature in P-Square’s video. So, what are they talking about?”

Contacted to react to the controversy following Peter’s project, P-Square’s publicist, Bayo Adetu declined comments. We also sent him SMS, which he didn’t reply.

“Sir, ENCOMIUM Weekly wants P-Square’s reaction to the impression that ‘Dance with Peter,’ the solo project of Peter Okoye with GLO, suggests he will soon part ways with his brother and label mate, Paul. Can you also help us find out how Paul feels about the new deal with GLO? Thanks,” the SMS read.

Rumours of the Okoye brothers splitting over a deep-rooted family feud was awash in the media shortly after Paul’s wedding last year. The story back then was that Peter was going his way, citing discriminatory attitude from Paul and Jude, their older brother manager. In fact, it was believed his contribution to Square Records is ‘just dance.’

With outcry and condemnation trailing the alleged separation, the Okoyes would make things up the family way, insisting it was a media ‘stunt.’

Now, the latest development is a solo project, Dance with Peter, which Peter Okoye is doing with Nigeria’s largest indigenous telecommunication company, GLO.

P-Square are currently GLO’s highest-paid brand ambassadors.
