‘I feel elated and on top of the world’

Popular Yoruba actress, Toyin Adegbola, widely known as Ashawo to re Mecca is in a season of joy. This is not unconnected with the fact that she has joined the league of Nollywood actors, who have been given political appointment. She has been appointed a board member of the Osun Arts and Culture Council.

The light complexioned actress will join fellow Yoruba movie actors and Araba of Osogbo, Ifayimi and the Olu of Ila, Adetokunbo Abolarin who is the chairman of the board.

In an exclusive chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly the versatile actress, who once worked with Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) expressed joy over the new appointment.

How do you feel about the new appointment?

I feel happy and elated. It’s everybody’s delight when he/she is appreciated. It shows some people appreciate your work.

How did you get the news and what was your initial reaction?

The funny thing is that I got the news via a text message from the Deputy Governor, Osun State. He congratulated me on my new appointment. That was around 7:30pm. I was confused. Then, some people called and started congratulating me. It was then it dawned on me that I have been appointed. I later confirmed the development the next day around 12pm.

I was happy. The joy is not about the money but the fact that someone recognized your contribution to the society and was bold enough to give you a chance to impact your state.

What contribution are you bringing to the board?

First, I am happy that the honourable governor of Osun is wise. He understood the fact that the board is due for a change. Thus, he brought versatile and experienced hands on board to move it to the next level. Give us six months and we would revolutionize the agency.

How would you juggle that with your acting career?

They can’t clash. In fact, they go hand in hand. I can tell you confidently that the appointment won’t jeopardize my career, rather, it will affect it positively.
