Presidency confirms Buhari’s movement to Aso Rock

‘He slept in the villa on Sunday,’ Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina

THE Presidency has officially confirmed President Muhammadu Buhari’s movement to Presidential Villa, Aso Rock.

Presidential Spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina in an exclusive phone chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Monday, June 22, 2015, also revealed that the President slept in the villa, for the first time, on Sunday (June 21).

“He moved into the Villa yesterday, and slept there.”

President Muhammadu Buhari is relocating to the Presidential Villa, Abuja more than three weeks after his inauguration on Friday,  May 29.

PMB joined his wife, Aisha, who reportedly moved in on Thursday, June 18.  Before he finally relocated to his official residence, the President had, on Sunday afternoon, visited the Presidential Villa briefly.

Those who thought Buhari had moved in to the seat of power were however, shocked when he left the premises after spending a few minutes.  But he later returned, finally in the evening.

Since their inauguration, Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have yet to relocate to the Presidential Villa.

They have been operating from their private residences and the Defence House, Maitama, Abuja which is the official residence of the President-elect.

The President’s wife on Thursday relocated to the Presidential Villa when her husband was out of Abuja.

Buhari was at that time on a two-legged private trips to Kaduna and Daura, his hometown in Katsina State.

Sources had hinted that the President would join Aisha inside the Presidential Villa upon his return to Abuja after the trip.

However, when Buhari returned to the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday (June 20), he still retired into his private residence in Aso Drive, Abuja, from where he had been operating.

But on Sunday afternoon, the President reportedly visited the Presidential Villa, apparently to spend a few minutes with his wife as he prepared to join her.   The President arrived at about 2pm and spent about 30 minutes before he left only to return in the evening.

It was not clear at press time whether Osinbajo had also moved in.

Buhari operated from the President’s office for the first time on Monday, June 22.  Meanwhile, the Presidency insist it was only Buhari that knows when he would start making key appointments. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser (Media & Publicity) to the President, disclosed this to ENCOMIUM Weekly, Monday when asked to comment on the issue.

“On appointments, it is his prerogative to make when he is ready.  Thanks,” Adesina said.

Speculations are rife that Buhari, who has been operating for almost one month without a cabinet, body of Advisers and Assistants except of the media aides, would announce key appointments this week.

In fact, political observers say he would (in a matter of days) name his Chief Of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Special Advisers, Assistants, among others.

It is not clear when PMB would send list of ministerial nominees to the Senate for confirmation to enable him form the Federal Executive Council.
