Barry Ryan Sr, died in a heroic bid to save his son (Barry Jr, 21) and his girlfriend (Niamh O’Connor, 20). The 51 year old jumped in after seeing the couple in difficulty in a sea off County Cork in Ireland.
The younger Barry was trying to rescue his girlfriend who had been swept away by a huge freak wave but was unlucky. Then his hero dad stepped in to save them both. The body of Barry Sr and Niamh was found close to the shoreline and pronounced dead. A massive search is still ongoing for Barry Jr.
