Producers unbothered about pirated HOAYS DVDs in the market

The producers of the movie, Half of a Yellow Sun have said they are not bothered about pirates feasting on their film which was recently released to the cinemas.
The film which is an adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s novel, Half of a Yellow Sun started showing at the cinemas on Friday, August 1, 2014. And shortly after it’s release, pirated version hit the streets. They are said to be selling the novel alongside the pirated DVDs in the traffic in Maryland, Lagos and other places mostly on the streets. Despite this development, the producers are not losing their sleep.
Bigsam Media official, publicist for the producers of the movie told ENCOMIUM Weekly, “It is nothing to worry about, the film has been released in DVDs in the US. The released DVDs might have found it’s way into Nigeria. That may be the pirated ones in the market. It has not affected the viewership at the cinemas. As at the last time check, the movie made over N40 million. The target was N100 million”.
The movie topped the box office chart for three weeks consecutively grossing almost N40 Million that period. The figures gathered from cinemas across the country showed the movie is ahead all other Hollywood movies. HOAYS broke box office record in its first weekend by making over N15 million ahead of other box office record giants. The movie is now at the number one spot in Nigerian cinemas, ahead of Marvel Studio’s Guardian of Galaxy.
According to Bigsam Media, “The acceptance of HOAYS in Nigerian cinemas has been massive, it has been awesome. We are grateful to all movie lovers who have seen the movie. We want to urge all those who have not seen it to please go to the cinemas and experience a difference in Nigerian movies. We are grateful for all the love and support that we have received on HOAYS so far”.
Half of a Yellow Sun is a movie set in the era of the Biafran war in Nigeria. It is a story of love, lust, jealousy, greed and brings to light the effects of war on lives and emotions. The movie featured BAFTA award winner and Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Onyeka Onwenu, Genevieve Nnaji, O.C. Ukeje, and Zack Orji.
