PROGRESSIVES GOVERNORS’ FORUM MEETS IN LAGOS OVER STATE OF NATION

  • Charges National Assembly leadership to remain consistent over rights of members to choose party of their choice

Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the banner of Progressives Governors’ ForumFriday rose from a meeting in Lagos charging members of the National Assembly to remain steadfast in upholding the rights and privileges of its members to choose, without intimidation, the political party of their choice.

In a five-paragraph communiqué issued after the meeting held at the Lagos House, Marina, the Governors also urged all relevant stakeholders involved in preparations towards the forthcoming Ekiti and Osun State Governorship elections to ensure that appropriate arrangements are in place to discharge their duties lawfully and with utmost responsibility.

In the communiqué read to newsmen by the Forum Chairman and Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the Governors, who had earlier deliberated extensively on the preparations by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the elections, maintained that there was need for adequate preparations in order “to forestall a repeat of the electoral sham experienced in Anambra and Delta States and to restore the credibility in the electoral process”.

The Forum, which also reviewed the preparations for the commencement of membership registration into the Party, urged all prospective members, sympathizers and party structures to fully support the process for a comprehensive documentation and registration of the members.

On the political and security situation in Rivers State, the Forum, which took an in-depth look at the activities of the Nigeria Police Force in the State in the last couple of months, frowned at the recklessness, impunity and outright misconduct of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu and maintained “that the Nigeria Police Force is not a PDP police and such flagrant violations of the Constitution and laws of Nigeria should henceforth stop”.
