Project Fame winner, Jeffrey Akoh speaks on secret of his success

JEFFREY Ufedo Akoh is the MTN Project Fame West Africa winner for Season 8 (2015). The 19 year-old singer in a chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly told us how he emerged the winner, the secrets of his success and how he intends to spend his prize money.  Upon emerging the winner of the contest, he got a brand new SUV, N5 million and a year recording deal.

 

Can you please tell us about yourself?

My name is Jeffrey Ufedo Akoh.  I am from Kogi State, Igala by tribe.  I am an HSC graduate of Sound Engineering of SAE Institute, Cape Town.  I am the last child from a family of five.

jeff  1-IMG_8619Since winning Project Fame West Africa competition, you have acquired a huge fan base not just in Nigeria but all over Africa.  What has been your experience so far?

The experience has been awesome.  The truth is winning comes with a lot of responsibilities and I’m still relishing those responsibilities.

Considering the fortune and fans that come with winning, how have you been able to handle popularity?

I’ve been able to handle the popularity quite well.  I’m not an A-list artiste, so I can still get away with quite some things.  So, I’m enjoying myself.

What genre of music do you make?

I’m an artiste, I’m not closed up in a box.  I am a musician, I’m not defined by genre.  I am defined by my music.

What songs have you released since winning Project Fame West Africa?

I’ve released Dip.  I sang it with Iyanya.

What’s your unique selling point as a musician?

I’m my unique selling point because I believe I’m unique and with God with me, I’ll be my selling point.

How do you handle your female fans?

I love my female fan.  I don’t think I’ve gotten to the stage that I’d say fans but I love them.  I love ladies.

What was your most embarrassing moment?

My most embarrassing moment was when I got too emotional and I cried backstage.

What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done for you?

Fans, adding me on social network, insulting me and deleted me.  Afterwards, they started begging to add me back.

Are you in a relationship?

No, I’m not in a relationship.

Who is your ideal woman?

My ideal woman is the African woman.

What do you find attractive in a woman?

I like a woman who has a great personality.  It is not always about good looks.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself as a huge international artiste doing shows all over the world.

When are you releasing an album?

I really can’t tell you when, but I assure you, I am working on it and it will not take long.

Which international artistes do you wish to collaborate with?

Chris Brown, Usher, Beyonce, Sam Smith.

Which Nigerian male and female artistes would you love to collaborate with?

Wizkid and Seyi Shay.

I think my music is inspired by what I am doing or my situation at a certain time.

Who is your role model?

God is my role model.

Why did you go into music?

I love music because it’s all I’ve always wanted to do.  Music gives me joy.

If you have the power, what will you change in the world?

I don’t have that power, so I won’t change anything.

What defines your fashion sense?

I just do what comes to my mind.  For now, I don’t think there’s any specific thing that defines my fashion sense.

Can you tell us about your educational background?

I attended Shining Star Nursery and Primary School, Kubwa, Abuja, Federal Government Boys College, Garki, Abuja, then SAE School of Audio Engineering, Cape Town.

What should your fans expect from you next year?

My fans should expect great music.

You are very gifted, talented and hard working.  What advise do you have for those aspiring to be like you?

I am an up and coming artiste, so I’ll advice anyone out there who wants to be like me to be disciplined, hustle hard and be very humble.

How do you intend to spend the prize money you won?

That’s very personal.

What are the secrets of your success, while you were in Project Fame house?

Being myself and staying original.
