PSquare’s unresolved crisis escalates

Contrary to the maxim, ‘it takes two to tango ’, Paul Okoye of PSquare group has chosen to tango  alone by deciding to perform at the ‘VIP Show’ which held in Goma, Congo without his twin.

In March, the group’s fans and the entertainment world at large was thrown into confusion with the news of their separation.

Not much was heard of the group until recently when the duo of Psquare, Peter and Paul Okoye, were booked to perform in Congo; a published video about a month ago showing the talented duo promoting the Congo show together was an indicator that both brothers were back for good.

It was more confusing that while Paul was sharing photos from the concert all the way from Congo with thousands of likes, his twin and music partner, Peter was having a haircut in Banana Island, Lagos with fans trailing harsh reactions.

This is not the first time a one-man performance will be happening as Peter Okoye recently performed as a solo artiste at an event in Abuja by the name “Mr P”.

When asked about the reason for the division, Peter said he was not comfortable with Paul’s demands; he explained that the demands are based on some deals with their elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye in which he suspects some tricks.

Peter took to his Instagram page on Friday, July 8, to write: “This goes out to all my Fans in Congo specifically and the entire world in General.

“My attention has been drawn to a much publicised show holding today 8th July, 2016(VIP SHOW) and tomorrow 9th July, 2016, (in Goma) and on the 17th of August in Kinshasa wherein the name Psquare was used maliciously and mischievously to garner patronage and huge fans attendance as against the stage name Rudeboy which is used when my Twin Brother, Paul, and Co-owner of the stage name Psquare performs alone.

“I never endorsed the usage of my name as the contractual terms presented were not favourable to me, thus I am not part of the show booked by our former manager Jude and I wholeheartedly disassociate myself from the unauthorized use of my Co-owned stage name (Psquare) and images for promotional and economic reasons without my express written consent or permission.

“Contrary to the wild allegations making the rounds that I could not attend the show because I am sick and missed my flight along with my crew members, I wish to counter same and state categorically, that I am 101% healthy.

“I shall take appropriate legal actions in the nearest future against the promoters and the sponsors of these events @airtel_congob for character assassination and malicious misrepresentation. Thank you. MR.P (Peter of Psquare)”.

Peter’s resolute belief to succeed as an independent artiste without his twin brother Paul and their elder brother Jude is a road sign that the end of PSquare is nearer than we thought. Peter tried to explain his own said of the messy story…

“I was told the show has been cancelled and money returned.

“I will not continue to fold my hands when there exists a situation calculated to foster disunity and lack of good faith with the brand.

“There are specific questions begging for answers here: How come Paul never advertised this show upon landing in Congo on any of his social media handles as its customary when artistes are scheduled to perform? Why did Paul say that I was sick and unable to make the show when in fact, I am hale and hearty? Why did Paul grant a Psquare press conference stating that I missed my flight and I will arrive for the show, knowing fully well, I am not aware of the continuance of the show?”

Though Paul is yet to make any comment after posting the video of his solo performance, Peter insists that he withdrew because the terms were unfavorable and the financial sharing ratios were unfair. Another show, sponsored by the same company- Airtel, is scheduled for Kinshasa on the 17th of August and only time will time what will happen then.
