Reactions to Super Eagles’ performance at the World Cup

AUSTIN OKOCHA, EX-INTERNATIONAL

First, I have to give the Super Eagles a standing ovation for their performance against Argentina in Brazil on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Yes, we criticized them for their poor performance in their opening game but it’s all credit to Keshi and the entire coaching crew as well as the players for their attitude and professionalism.

They showed full commitment against Argentina. We need to keep our calm and in crucial moments, avoid a little loss of concentration which is what is still lacking in our football. I think we matched Argentina.

I see Nigeria also doing well against France. We’ve got what it takes to proceed to the quarter finals.

CLEMENT OKEKE

It’s true we are through to the next round but we still have a lot to do. The Super Eagles need to address all the technical flaws raised in their first round of matches. But I see a team that is improving tremendously. Who knows, we might be the team to beat in the World Cup.

M-KAZE

Although I’ve been busy working on the release of my two new singles, Take You Home and Light Me On, I made out time to watch my country play against Argentina. And it was worth watching because our boys played very well.

Despite their narrow defeat, I salute the Super Eagles for their courage and resilience in the face of the star-loaded Argentina side. We will beat France and proceed to the quarter finals.

LALA BALOGUN

The performance of the boys is progressing, the first match against Iran was drab, there was a bit improvement against Bosnia and a better performance against Argentina though we lost. I see a brighter future for the team if they stay together and not allow bonus row distract them.

KAZEEM ADEYEMI

I am impressed with their performance so far in the tournament. Few big nations have crashed out and we are still there, that means we need to support the boys to do more. God’s grace we will triumph over France in our next match.

ISIAKA AFOLABI

The team is okay but there is need for more cohesion. If the team must defeat France, there should be more of pull outs from the midfield. And if Super Eagles can demonstrate the kind of spirit applied in their match with Argentina, they will surely beat France. They don’t have a choice, they just have to qualify for the final of the tournament if they don’t win.

OBINNA JOHN

Our match againt Argentina was fantastic despite the fact that we didn’t win. A lot of people thought Nigeria will be defeated hands down but the reverse was the case. Super Eagles really proved they were super that day.

If they can display the kind of commitment against Argentina, Nigeria will defeat France. But I give it to Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa. Nigerians should also encourage Stephen Keshi and pray for the team.
