JUWON Lawal, CEO, ABD Fuels and husband of Nollywood actress, Uche Iwuji has finally confirmed that his 15-month marriage to the Imo born thespian has crashed irreconcilably.
This was contained in a statement issued on behalf of the Kogi born entrepreneur by his publicist, Status and Living Media on Friday, February 7, 2014, which reads: “This should serve as the official statement confirming the end to the marriage formalized on Friday, November 16, 2012, between the CEO, ABD Fuels Plc, Mr. Juwon Lawal and actress Uche Iwuji.
“Already the court processes to that effect are on in order to give a legal seal to the separation.
“Mr. Lawal was in Europe on a business tour when the story first broke through the social media. This was the reason he couldn’t react appropriately to it. Plus the fact that he felt the situation could be redeemed.
“Although, he would not want to talk about the reasons for the separation, Mr. Lawal is not married anymore to Iwuji.
“And he will like to treat his estranged wife’s case as “Once friends, always friends.”
On Saturday, February 8, 2014, ENCOMIUM Weekly, in a bid to confirm the authenticity of the message, got across to the young and amiable businessman, and he swiftly reacted, “Yes, it’s correct. There is nothing more to confirm again. No further details, please.”
ENCOMIUM Weekly’s efforts to get Iwuji’s reaction was futile as the call put through her mobile phone was picked by a female, who identified herself as Tessy, claiming we called a wrong number.
“Who do you want to speak with and for what? Uche Iwuji or who? Please, this is a wrong number,” and she terminated the call.
On Friday, November 16, 2012, when the estranged couple said ‘I do’ to each other, little did they know that the boat of their romance would capsize so soon. But to the surprise of many within and outside the industry, months after, rumour mills were agog that the hitherto Romeo and Juliet had gone their separate ways on account of infidelity on the side of Iwuji, linking her to a bank MD.
However, Lawal and the sexy role interpreter swiftly debunked the story, claiming it was nothing but a rumour.
ENCOMIUM Weekly specifically had a chat with the former on Thursday, November 28, 2013, over the alleged break-up. He maintained that his relationship with Iwuji was still very much intact. “That’s very strange. I am hearing it for the first time. Anyway, I don’t even have time reading all those rubbish. Maybe, when I am less busy, I will invite you for a chat.”
Now, the latest development has confirmed that the ABD Fuels boss was only being economical with the truth, hoping that all would be well. But now the union has crashed irretrievably.
According to an industry source, the real reason the relationship went sour was largely due to the alleged romance between Iwuji and the top banker.
“I learnt that when Juwon got a wind of the rumour of his wife’s romance with her banker lover, he couldn’t believe it because just last year, he bought a car worth N4m for her. So, what’s her problem? But when the guy returned from Europe, he found a lot of dirty and implicating text messages of the man in Iwuji’s mobile phone. I learnt all explanations by Iwuji fell on Juwon’s deaf ears. He just decided to call it quits with her.”
