Redeemer’s University Ede (Osun) permanent site in sorry state

-Staff, students grumble over poor infrastructure, insufficient accommodation

run3-001AUTHORITIES of Redeemer’s University (RUN) are on fire over the state of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) owned institution of higher learning, which hurriedly moved to its permanent site in Ede, Osun State days back.

From complaints bordering on insufficient accommodation to poor infrastructure, multiple sources told ENCOMIUM Weekly that residents of RUN in Ede are telling tales of woes.

From some photographs depicting the true state of the private university, critics of the Professor Debo Adeyewa-led RUN are seriously alleging he hurriedly relocated to Ede, when facilities to ensure residents’ minimum comfort are not in place, just to please the Visitor/Pro Chancellor of RUN, Pastor Eboch Adeboye, who is also the General Overseer of RCCG.

To justify their claim, they pointed to some uncompleted buildings in the university, many areas overgrown with weeds, shortage of water and power, among other challenges.

ENCOMIUM Weekly was also reliably informed that RUN’s science students, who usually pay more than those in the humanities and social sciences, would still be coming to Redemption Camp (RUN’s temporary site, in Mowe, Ogun State) run2-001for their practicals, reason being that the university’s laboratories and equipment are yet to be fixed.

We further learnt RUN could not move some of their laboratory equipment to Ede.

In fact, some official mail and chats ENCOMIUM Weekly exclusively obtained from some RUN’s sources indicate there are indeed serious issues and squabbles emanating from RUN’s ‘forced’ movement to Ede community.

Contacted on the issues at stake, RUN’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Tunji Adeleye declined comments.  ENCOMIUM Weekly also sent him a mail via [email protected] on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, which he deliberately ignored.  The mail read:

“Good evening, sir.  Information at the disposal of ENCOMIUM Weekly has it that Redeemer’s University (RUN) moved staff and students to almost uncompleted buildings, some of the pictures we already have.

Our source also alleged insufficient accommodation, among other issues.  In our tradition of balanced reporting, we

Pastor Adeboye

expect your side of the story.  Thanks, Uche Olehi, Associate Editor.”

We equally repeatedly sent SMS to RUN’s spokesman to address the knotty issues brought to our attention, all of which he shunned.

But on the evening of Thursday, October 16, 2014, Mr. Adeleye spoke with ENCOMIUM Weekly and the following conversation ensued:

Tunji Adeleye: Good evening, sir.

ENCOMIUM Weekly: Good evening, Mr. Adeleye.

Adeleye: This line (ENCOMIUM Weekly) has been harassing me with SMS and mail.

ENCOMIUM: We are so, so sorry about that, sir.  We only wanted to hear RUN’s side of the story as regards complaints trailing your relocation to Ede, Osun State permanent site.

That was the last we heard from RUN’s spokesman before we went to press.

Redeemer’s University movement to its Ede, Osun State, permanent site after nine years at the Redemption Camp has evolved into a saga.  The relocation meant that over 100 staff had to go!  The aggrieved sacked staff, who that same week embarked on peaceful protest obviously lost from all sides with RUN insisting they have the right to hire and fire at will.

Interestingly, some of them who wished not to be named (so they don’t entirely lose all), also claimed they are yet to be paid their entitlements more than a month after they were fired without adequate notice.

In the heels of these multi-faceted issues, RUN’s staff and students who commenced movement to Ede two weeks ago are now reportedly complaining bitterly, citing poor infrastructure, dearth of accommodation and sorry state of the new site, among legions of other major challenges.

Interestingly, RUN’s authorities have kept mum on the palpable tension on campus.  They are rather pleading with ENCOMIUM Weekly to stop harassing them with mail, calls and SMS.
