‘Releasing an album in 15 years is God’s timing’ – Arole Roy

Talented gospel-juju musician, Evangelist Omolaja Lowo, better addressed as Arole Roy, is no doubt setting a pace in the Nigerian entertainment industry after the release of his debut album, My Song, on Monday, December 26, 2016.

In this interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly recently, the Ogun born entertainer talked about few issues revolving around his life and career, including life at 40, his new album, challenges in the industry and more.

Congratulations on the release of your first album after 15 years in the industry and 40th birthday?

Thank you so much

How do you feel about these?

Thank you once more. Everything is not by my power but by His grace. It’s just the Lord’s doing. First, clocking 40 is not an easy thing, but I give thanks to God for His grace and favour. I have been singing since I was 25. And now, I am also celebrating my 15 years on stage. I also launched my first album, My Song, in December 2016. It’s like a three-in-one event. I just have to be very grateful to God for the journey so far.

Can you tell us how you found your path in music?

I started from church 15 years ago. I was a member of the church choir before joining a band. I had to shuttle being a choir and a band member. After church service, we would move to Abidap Hotel, Ipaja, Lagos where we used to perform.

Since, I have not looked back. Things started falling in place gradually. I thank God for where I am today. Though, the journey has not been that smooth, I still have every reason to be grateful to God. My type of music from onset has been gospel juju, and my fans have been commending my good efforts.

Since the release of the album, how has the commendation been from the public?

I give thanks to God because people show positive response to the song. A lot of fans have been calling me about the song. Once I leave this place, I will be heading to Faaji FM. The song has received a lot of airplay on Faaji FM and other radio stations. And a lot of people have been calling to appreciate the effort. I thank God for the commendations so far.

Tell us about your challenges so far?

The challenges were many because it has not been an easy journey. It has been really tough. To take a decision and stand on your own is not an easy thing at all. I can remember we used to stage about four shows without making a dime.

What has helped you so far?

I think the most important thing is to stay focused and believe in what you’re doing.

Why are just coming out with first album after 15 years in the industry?

That’s God’s time because if I am to count based on my effort, it’s supposed to be my third album. I have done a few albums in the past for my church, but this new one, My Song, is my personal album.
