Restraining Order: Mercy Aigbe’s husband risks 5 years imprisonment

Lanre Gentry,  the estranged husband of star actress, Mercy Aigbe, risks five years in jail if he fails to obey the restraining order placed on him by the family court of Lagos State.
Mr Gentry in an interview published in Saturday Punch of May 6, 2017, claimed that the restraining order was obtained from Kangaroo court.
His words ” …It is reported that she obtained a restraining order against me. But the truth is that it is a kangaroo injunction. Is it possible for the court to restrain me from seeing my child or a person that took my property out of my house?  Is it possible? I learnt she went to the police but they did not lend her a listening ear. So she decided to use the judiciary and we would meet there.”
But a section of the law against domestic violence and for connected purposes, a copy of which encomium.ng obtained from the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation states, “Where a party disobeys the order of the court, the court shall impose a fine of N100,000.00 or an imprisonment of not more than five years or both.”
The Lagos State Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Ministry in conjunction with its Justice counterpart has  gone to court to obtain a restraining order to prevent him moving close to his wife after seeing how he had battered her in the course of a domestic scuffle between the two.
Mrs. Lola Akande, the commissioner for women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in an interview with a journalist said Mercy Aigbe when she visited her in her office a week after the family scuffle was still bleeding from her nose and mouth and had an injury on her face which the doctor said she must have an operation.
The commissioner said she also met with Mr Gentry to ask him why he treated his wife that way to which he responded that she offended her.
Meanwhile, Mrs Titilayo Vivour-Adeniyi, the Coordinator of Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) of the Ministry of Justice has said that Mr Gentry will appear in court very soon to justify why the restraining order should not be made perpetual.
She also said he would be charged to court for criminal offence of domestic violence…
