A 111-year-old Japanese former head teacher has been officially recognized as the world’s oldest living man .
He received a Guinness World Records certificate yesterday (August 20) after succeeding American Alexander Imich who died in April.
Sakari Momoi was born February 5, 1903, in Fukushima prefecture, where he became a teacher.
He is one of 54,000 centenarians in Japan where the average life expectancy is 80.21 years for men and 86.61 years for women.
