Rita Nkechi introduces Bling By Rita Nkechi

I guess we know why the stars come out at night. There’s only enough space for the sun during the day. Rita Nkechi, the creative mind behind the exquisite “bling” brand, shines like a nova star. Her creations are dreamlike, inspired by afrocentric and oriental art, woven into frame less fashion statements that speak volumes.

Its little wonder “bling by Rita Nkechi” appeals to the different phases of fashionista’s; from post teenage undergraduate girls, to the vibrant go-getter, to the sophisticated executive lady all the way up to the iconic diva with that extra taste for custom made luxury. Such  attention to every tiny detail makes her designs simply irresistible.

The ex-beauty queen turned designer cut her teeth out at an early age. She remembers with nostalgia, making her  first “boo boo” at just age 7.

Her undergraduate days saw her winning the Miss Nigeria campus crown, prior to that she had been crowned Miss Abuja as well. She was also 1st runner up at the 1997 edition of Miss Nigeria pageant, organized by Daily Times Nigeria. It wasn’t till after graduation that she went back to her first love, this time making wedding dresses and apparels for her friends. But the ever adventurous spirit was just getting started.

With a strong resolve to empower herself further, she jetted out to china, where she did courses on fabric technology and bedazzling, and these coupled with her dexterity and hard working ethics are the secrets behind the ingenuity of her designs today.

In her own words: “I am an only child, and even as an adult my mother still says I have a child’s heart. I have many people I design for that take the credit but i don’t mind though because that helps me in cementing my presence in this industry”.

I am so passionate about what I do and I consider it a privilege from God to be able to use this as an avenue to achieve my life’s purpose.

And I also mentor young girls to start up their own businesses to become self reliant. We have a training academy where I teach designing accessories, entrepreneur ship, branding and marketing. We hope to expand soon to include more skills acquisition programs like make up, bead making, bouquet arrangement, event planning, cake decoration etc.

The bling kings plaza, opposite access bank, Tejuosho market, yaba Lagos is a beehive of activities.

The ever busy mum describes motherhood as the best job in the world. She takes time out to visit the beach to relax and rejuvenate her mind.

Rita Nkechi also holds an MBA in Human resource management and is also an alumni of the Excel Business school.
