Sacked General Superintendent split Assemblies of God Church into two

he crises rocking the Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria is far from being over as the two gladiators have polarised the ministry.

Rev. Paul Emeka

With the emergence of a new General Superintendent after the sack of Rev. Paul Emeka by over 7000 delegates, the church administration has been split into two. The expelled Rev Paul Emeka has insisted that he remains the authentic General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria.

Rev Emeka made this clarification on Wednesday, November 5, 2014.

The clergy who is yet to vacate the office within the general secretariat of Assemblies of God Church at Independence Layout, Enugu stated that it was very saddening that while the church held its 35th General Council meeting at the national headquarters in Enugu from October 23 to October 24, his adversaries went and organised a different one at Evangel Camp, Okpoto, in Ebonyi State, after which they addressed newsmen to proclaim him (Rev. Prof. Emeka) sacked from the church.

“It is very unfortunate that we held the legitimate 35th General Council Meeting from October 23-24 at the national headquarters of the church in Enugu, but a faction of the church led by Rev. Dr. Chidi Okoroafor went ahead to conduct another one in Okopoto from October 28-31. That duplication in Okpoto was illegal and flouted the constitution of the church and the court which ordered all of us to maintain status quo ante bellum.”

Rev. Chidi Okoroafor

He stressed that he was re-elected during the legitimate general council meeting in Enugu, but Rev. Chidi Okoroafor and his cohorts went ahead to organise an illegal general meeting at Okpoto, Ebonyi state, stating that negated standing court ruling which specified that both parties must maintain status quo, pending the outcome of the suit.

He recalled that the illegal action which he described as a coup was first carried out on March 6, 2014, when they held an illegal General Committee meeting where they purportedly suspended him.

Rev Emeka alleged that Rev Chidi Okoroafor and his cohorts were also plotting to kill him.

”They had sworn that they would do whatever they could to eject me, including a possible elimination of my life. I have already petitioned the IG on threat to my life by Chidi, Abuka, Prince Emeaba, G. O. Chukwu and the people they represent.”
