Adedoyin Adekoya, also Known as BadBoy Ace, was born on July 26, 1992. Badboy Ace fell in love with music at 11. Listening to King Sunny Ade and Sir Shina Peters in his early days increased his passion for music. Professionally, he started three years ago with Difference Entertainment playing as hype man and performing backups for pop sensation, Sean Tizzle.
BadBoy Ace is out with his debut singles Polongo and Gimme Dat. All songs produced by the award winning producer, DTunes.
However, in a brief interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly, he opened up on his music career and relationship with Sean Tizzle…
Congratulations on your two new singles, how do you feel?
Thanks a lot, I feel really great. I never envisaged that both singles would be widely accepted but I still remain grateful to God for this great beginning. It is indeed a blessing for me.
Tell us about the singles?
They are Gimmie That and Polongo. I honestly can’t explain how happy I am about the acceptance and response from the fans because both songs went viral within a twinkle of an eye. It’s unbelievable but I guess I’m counting my blessings already.
When and how did music start for you?
It all started for me when I was little. I was 11 when I joined the choir. My mum always encouraged me to learn how to play an instrument. So, I joined the choir to learn how to play the drums and that was how I got hooked.
Have you always wanted to do music as a child or it came along the way?
I’d say music, for me, was something that came along the way. The more I knew about music, the more I wanted to know, the more I learnt, the more I wanted to learn. I finally decided I wanted to do music midway through university. Music has its own special kind of vibe which makes you want to glue to it all the rest of your life. I believe I have not taken the wrong turn because all I see ahead of me is greatness.
Being in the music industry is highly competitive. How do you intend to stand the test of time?
There is no competition in music for me because I am here to do my own thing and not play out someone else’s script. I believe with God, hard work and my team I can achieve anything. I really can’t say I have a plan on how to conquer all the challenges but I believe in myself and I have the best team in the world working with me. So, I know I would break many barriers.
Describe your kind of music?
My music can be described in two words, Afro Pop.
How do you feel working alongside Sean Tizzle?
I feel really blessed. Sean is one of the most talented people I’ve met all my life, he’s very supportive and encouraging to say the very least. He is more than a friend to me.
What is your relationship with him?
He’s my big brother, my mentor and friend. We’ve eaten and drank from the same pot (laughs). He’s a great guy.
Aside Sean Tizzle, who else do you wish to work with?
Right now, the list is countless. I am ready to work with as many music artistes in the entertainment industry. I am not scared because it would be a great privilege for me. Aside that, music is what I love doing and I’m ready for the challenges.
Tell us about your background and your stage name?
I’m the first of four kids, all boys! Growing up, we moved around a lot. My father was always being transferred from state to state. Speaking on the stage name, some group of guys organized a party back in my university days and I took a bottle of Ace of Spades to the party to show off. But surprisingly, that’s how the name Ace came into existence and the BadBoy thereafter.
Do you see yourself releasing an album soon, if yes, when?
Of course, I do. But I can’t say how soon but very soon.
