COURT DELIVERS DECISION ON BUHARI’S DISQUALIFICATION

Following a motion for discontinuance filed by Nnamdi Nwokocha – Ahaaiwe on the suit seeking Muhammadu Buhari’s disqualification, Adeniyi Ademola, justice of the Federal High Court, delivered ruling on suit challenging the veracity of the academic credentials of the president, yesterday, June 30, in Abuja.

The suit alleged that the incumbent president was not qualified to run for the position because he did not possess the minimum qualifications to run for the office.

 

COURT SENDS EX-GOVERNOR TO KUJE PRISON

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained former governor of Adamawa state Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. He is being prosecuted by the EFCC over accusations of fraud and money laundering.

Justice Ahmed made the order after the ex-governor pleaded not guilty to all the five counts yesterday. Shortly after Fintiri pleaded not guilty to all the charges, the court heard his bail application but deferred the hearing till today, Friday 1st July 2016, to deliver its ruling on it.

 

MY ADMINISTRATION WILL REBUILD NIGER DELTA – BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari has said his administration would rebuild Nigeria, including the Niger Delta region. This was contained in a press statement by Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity yesterday.

According to Adesina, President Buhari solicits patience and understanding from the citizenry in order to achieve this. The president said the gazette on the Niger Delta amnesty programme by the Umaru Yar’Adua administration is being studied with a view to determining what has been fulfilled, promising that whatever is left would equally be addressed.

 

INEC ISSUES CERTIFICATE OF RETURN TO UCHE OGAH

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued the certificate of return to Uche Ogah, who polled the second highest number of votes in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries in Abia State.

Oluwole Osaze – Uzi, INEC’s director of publicity, says this follows an order by the Abuja Federal High Court mandating the commission to immediately issue certificate of return to Uche Ogah.

 

FORGERY CASE: WE ARE BEING ASSAULTED –  SENATE

The Nigerian Senate has responded to the statement issued by the Secretary to the Federal Government, Mr. David Babachir Lawal that the Senate is not the one on trial in the forgery case instituted by the Attorney General of the Federation against the Senate president and his deputy.

The Senate as an institution and indeed the National Assembly has spoken about the understanding of the present assault on their independence by the executive : ‘We maintain that this trial is a design by the executive to criminalize the internal affairs of the Senate to create a distraction for the leadership of the Senate.’

 

FAYOSE DARES BUHARI’S WIFE

The ultimatum which Mrs. Buhari issued to governor Ayodele Fayose, demanding to drop his accusations, has expired. The wife of the president, Aisha Buhari, gave the governor five days to apologize or face legal action but in the contrary, Fayose did not comply.

It was reported that the media director in the office of the wife of the president, Zakari Nadabo, confirmed that the office had not received any message from the governor. He also revealed that the wife of the president had left Nigeria for the kingdom of Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj.

 

FATHER MBAKA SAYS BUHARI MAY BE HEALED IN JESUS NAME

The controversial Catholic preacher, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has stated that some Nigerians are trying to cause a rift between Adoration Ministry in Enugu and the administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

The prominent man of God who issued a statement on June 30 via his media chief, Barr. Ike Maximus Ugwuoke has said that Nigerian doctors had expressed fears over the chances of the president’s recovering from his illness. However, according to him, he prayed against that and that Buhari may be healed in Jesus name.

 

TRIBUNAL UPHOLDS DAVID MARK’S ELECTION

The election of David Mark, a former Senate president has been upheld by the National Assembly elections petition Tribunal sitting in Makurdi.

In its ruling on Thursday, June 30, the Tribunal struck out the petition filed before it by Daniel Onjeh, the All Progressives Congress candidate in the February 20 rerun in Benue South senatorial district. Senator Mark had asked the Tribunal to dismiss Onjeh’s petition for filing outside the 21 days required by law.

 

CONFIDENCE IN POLICE COMMENT NOT ABOUT IKORODU KILLINGS –  LAGOS CP

Lagos State commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, yesterday said his representative’s comment on the attitude of Nigerians towards officers of the Nigerian police was not based on the recent attack of Lagos and Ogun communities by some gunmen.

He noted that he was never referring to the attack in Lagos and Ogun communities that occurred recently, rather he was referring to the general attitude. He argued that the Nigerian police will always work with citizens to ensure that they are often protected in the state.

 

OGUN PENSIONERS LOCK UP COMMISSIONER, WORKERS OVER UNPAID PENSION

Ogun state commissioner for finance, Adewale Osinowo was locked up yesterday in his Oke-mosan office, Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, alongside other ministry workers over two months unpaid pensions of local government retirees.

The pensioners who were demanding for their May and June, 2016 pensions claimed that no fewer than 60 members of the association had died in the last two months. Addressing the issue, Osinowo confirmed from the bank yesterday that within the next six hours their accounts will be credited.
